Prometheus: The Art of the Film Hardcover – June 12, 2012

(i promise this gets to why the book is worth it)Well it is likely the only movie of its kind, i went in wanting to hate it, was unsure, indifferent,But loved the chemistry between the two main Shaw and David.Watched a couple more times, loved it for being indirect, character and plot driven.Sequel scott has been verbally told needs to be made.... He says it will be more like alien...half listening to us, plan to lash out more..Disappointing as i liked the chemistry wanted to see this indirect character and plot driven sequel...Verbally lash out or this book will be the last smart movie that's visually beautiful in the series.My only complaint is I wish they would release another book nothing but pics of the chars, interesting set not concepts, with little info sections.I love that this book does have lovely Shots Of The Cast, But i Fear It Will Be A Onevof Its Kind Thing, Buy It Before scitts advanced George lucas Disease Goes Terminal....I Will Hope This will Be Reprinted Forvthose Who Cannot Afford The 40$.I Bought At Full Price 2 And The Friend I Got it For Also Loved It, Same Complaint, More Actual Cast And Set Pictures, Vs Cgi Concepts For Sets And Ships (thevone Amazing Pic Of The Ship is Better Than what Feels Like Filler)Noomi in nothing would be a personal preference, itbis an art book, But while full of filler, I feel this book is the one of its kind.Scott seems set on destroying his own legacy.Worth it for the possibility it is a one of a kind film, for the visually beautiful pieces in it.

Exactly what I hoped it would be! This book covered the artistic and technical facets of the film with sufficient detail and accompanying graphics without going over the abyss into self-absorbed back-patting. The interviews with Scott, his crew and cast reveal as much about the plot as about the effects and production methods. There are several interesting points as to how Prometheus fits into and deviates from the Alien series. If you are a fan of the series or interested in technical film production, buy this.

This Prometheus art book is mostly beautiful production stills and concept sketches done before and during the film's production. It has some simple, concise, and well written texts that give additional insights into Ridley Scott's creative process. It illustrates and descirbes Scott's creative ideas while reinventing his original Alien franchise concepts now that he considers it's central character, the alien itself, no longer frightening. Scott has expanded his Alien franchise's already big ideas even larger now by shifting the central theme away from the alien and back to the underlying human themes of curiosity, independent thinking and happiness. Scott elaborates on his method for this by his taking back and exploration of the original Alien's abondonded Space Jockey which was until now considered as the sacred cow of the franchise.Prometheus also integrates and extrapolates on author Erich Von Daniken's Chariot of the Gods theme of ancient aliens possibly populating the earth in prehistoric times. And this ancient aliens theme is also connected to the sub-culture of the Illuminati and its historical preoccupation with contacting our alien ancestors. So, Scott has now placed his Alien franchise sqaurely in center of ongoing global controversy about human ancient origins and implied moral imperatives.And while this Prometheus art book is as beautiful as the film is to look at, it also has many of the same unanswered questions actually meant to peak the audiences curiosity and inspire us to question authority in any form. Particularly when they're as hostile as those portrayed in the Alien franchise. Instaed of vegging out as Alien fan-boys demanding another cliched violent and now boring chest bursting scene, Prometheus raises the bar to challenge movie goers to actively think about big ideas in an even bigger universe and our existance in it. Prometheus' mysteries reinvigorates the Alien franchise and lays the groundwork for yet an entirely new and better series of sequels and spin offs.

The media could not be loaded. Prometheus: The Art of the Film is a nice movie visual companion. A large landscape hardcover with 192 pages.It's not the usual art book where you'll see lots of concept art. Rather, the content consist of film stills, photographs, storyboards and of course the concept art.There are more photos than concept art, not that it's bad thing. The photos are great actually, showing detailed look at the interiors of Prometheus, some of the sets built such as the Prometheus landing leg, the Pyramid, the head statue, the chamber with the Ampules, sculpted alien props and the landscape photos that were turned into alien environments.The concept art featured are mainly the finalized versions. There aren't many variations for any particular design. For example, there's only one exterior design of Prometheus, a handful of designs for spacesuit, aliens, etc. That's perhaps the downside of this so called art book. I do like the concept art style and rendition which goes really well together with the photos to give the book a very singular unified look.The commentary talks about the important scenes and locations. Those are interesting as they explain the design. The book doesn't dissect the story so whatever you find ambiguous in the movie will still be more or less ambiguous after reading the book.I consider this as more of a production design book. It's not an art book in the strictest sense as there aren't a lot of drawn art. コヴェナントを鑑賞した後の今、改めてプロメテウスのこの本を手に取ってみたら昔と違った感覚に襲われました。特にエリザベス・ショウに関しては。デヴィッドの実験の最終目標ってショウの復活だったりするのでしょうかね？
