The Case for Israel
J**M
What Deshowitz overloooks
Dershowitz writes a polemic for Israel, but overlooks two essential points.First, American foreign politicy toward Israel violates the advice of George Washington in his Farewell Address on foreign policy, -- that between foreign powers at odds with each other abroad, we should take a position of friendly neutrality, and avoid taking sides. In Washington's day, the two contending powers were Great Britain and France in Europe, in our time, the two contending powers are Arabs and Jews in the Middle East. Thomas Jefferson departed from Washington's advice, and got us into the War of 1812, which nearly lost American Independence. That war was brought to an end by the Hartford Convention which threatened secession of New England from the Union. Our current departure from Washington's advice of many Presidents has led to universal detestation of the United States abroad, and involvement of the United States in costly, bloody wars and misuse of American generosity over seventy years, to no advantage to the United States. Dershowitz mentions nothing about Washington's timeless wisdomDershowitz also disregards the indefensible attack of the Israeli air force and navy against the U. S. S. Liberty over many hours in broad daylight during the Six Days' War, proving with moral certainty that Israel is not friend, but a dangerous enemy of the United States. These omissions invalidate the case which Dershowitz makes for Israel. Our special relationship with Israel must come to an end -- John Remington Graham of the Minnesota Bar (#3664X)

Excellent Read
Can't say enough about this read! Easy to understand the history of Israel, mainly for the last Century during the "right of return" to the Holy Land that Jews have been in for 3,000 years! Explains the case for Israel, the bigotry, anti-semitism, and one sided World opinion, unfairly levied towards the Jewish State. Also details how terror groups have consistantly walked away from at least 3 different peace proposals, (one of which Saudi Prince Bandar even told Arafat that refusing it would amount to a criminal offense). Arafat walked away for more terror instead, because they do NOT want peace, at the expense of recognizing Israel's right to exist! Great read!

Explains a lot of the problems
Interesting concise writing. The topics are usually short so that they are explained easily and easy to understand. Lots of references included.

Absolutely tremendous
Alan Dershowitz clearly and concisely makes an impregnable case for Israel. If you are looking for a real defense for Israel and value intellectual honesty, then this book is a must read. Although a little outdated by now, the points are still fully relevant and need to be made.

A clear and concise delivery of historical facts
A must read by anyone seeking the truth about the Israeli-Palestinian history and conflict. I noticed many one-star reviews, mostly from people who have never read the book, not by verified purchasers of the book. And therein lies the problem. People who blindly believe people like Arafat or Chomsky without studying the actual history and series of events will be duped by false narratives. You owe it to yourself to read this book in order to engage in intelligent debate.

As could be anticipated Professor Dershowitz provides a compelling case ...
As could be anticipated Professor Dershowitz provides a compelling case for Israel. Included in this book are many facts that are all too often ignored in the ongoing Israeli/Palestinian debate. Not the least of which is the fact that the Jews who moved to the Ottoman controlled Palestine before Israel was recognised by the UN, bought the land they settled from absentee Arab landlords in Beirut and Damascus. And as such they had full and proper title to the land, they have been accused of stealing.

Essential reading to understand the arab-israeli conflict
An excellent introduction to the arab-israeli conflict. I don't approve of the two-state solution the author supports, but beside that this work is an excellent antidote to the "anti-zionist" rhetoric that is poisoning the well of the understanding of such a complex topic. Actually - and the book makes it very clear - it's quite simple to understand what's going on in that land: there's a jihad against Israel, and one side wants the other dead and annihilated. As simple as that. What makes the topic a "complex" one is the pile of lies that have been told by the arab propaganda just to make Israel appear as the perpetrator, whereas it's the victim of a 70-year long campaign aimed at the destruction of the jewish state and the extermination of its citizens. Lies that I'm sorry to say the western world's public opinion has bought into whole hog. Lies that this book does away with for good, if you have the will to let go of long-lasting prejudices you might have.

Separating well-founded facts from unsubstantiated opinions
Alan Dershowitz is a brilliant professor of Law at Harvard University, who has succeeded in providing us with a much-needed, excellent and valuable book which separates well-founded facts from unsubstantiated opinions, based on a top-level historical and juridical analysis. A must read for everyone who wants to get a crystal-clear view on the intricate situation of the country of Israel.

In lingua inglese.
