0 for 2 from this vendor on different products :(
This was my second try to purchase a solid and functional piano footrest from Young Musicians. Packaging was (again) excellent. The kids are *still* playing with the bubble wrap, there was so much used to carefully protect the foot rest. Unfortunately, this product was damaged when packaged, prior to shipping. One peg was completely broken off and another was mis-placed while the glue was still wet and is totally misaligned. Because I spent $32 to return the previous foot rest purchase I refuse to spend another $30 for a second return and be left empty-handed again so I will be hiring a woodworker to repair the piece, cutting off the misaligned peg and drilling out both holes, to reglue two new pegs. I suppose I'll have him finish the piece while he's got it, otherwise the unfinished wood will get dirty from kids shoes. As described, this is unfinished plywood. But I did not expect small biscuits of wood to have been drilled and replaced on the inside surface of two of the pieces - maybe to remove a knot without losing the piece entirely? I don't consider this furniture grade wood for that reason but I guess the woodworker will be able to tell me for sure. I'll update my review later with an expert's opinion. I'm just a mom with an unusable pile of wood... Quality assurance, as the reseller, YM, quality assurance!10/24 update: Woodworker saved the day! Repairs and finish cost me another $40 which was just about the same price to return so it was a wash. Confirmed: the wood biscuits are often a mechanism to remove a knot while saving the larger piece of wood. Piece is now highly functional and will likely last so I am increasing my rating by another star. Hopefully others will not have the repairs to make when ordering this item.

Too expensive. For that price, just make your own!
I should have invested in a foot stool for my students when I first began teaching, but I dismissed it as unnecessary. Well, I was wrong. You will waste so much time trying to get your students to stay up on the piano bench, simply because they want their feet on the ground. Just go ahead and get one. Now, this footstool has solved my problem of keeping students on the bench. There are a few things that I have a problem with...first of all, the wood is so light in color, the first foot that touches it is going to leave a mark on it. Mine had dirt marks and scratches after the very first lesson. They need darker wood, or I just need to paint it black. Also, the different height option is handy, but the kids end up rocking their feet back and forth, making "clacking" noises that they seem to find amusing (while I find it annoying). Invest in something that they can't move back and forth. My husband also says the pegs on the stool are cheaply made.My biggest "beef" with this product is the price! It is way too expensive for what it is! You are not getting your money's worth. I would rate this product as a $25 value. For $80, just go out and make your own!! Or stack some old books below their feet.

No longer dangling
No more piles of books, plastic lego boxes, or dangling legs for my 7 yr old. he is medium build and height and this foot rest is something i should have bought a year ago. it is not a stool though, and the first thing I taught my boy was to sit in the chair first, then to rest his feet on it. It seems sturdy enough to serve this way, but i don't think it would handle him repeatedly using it to step on and climb up to his chair. If you have a young budding pianist, buy it.(and yes of course you could make one for cheaper, but if you could why would you even be shopping around?)

Simple solution.
It is well made, and I put it together within minutes. A good solution for someone with no time or ability to construct this from scratch.

lightweight and easy to move shelf
I have this foot rest for young piano students and I like it very well, compared to several others that are cumbersome to move the shelf. This will grow with student and is great for beginners to have their feet firmly planted on a sturdy surface to give the proper balance while learning to play the piano. You should also consider some flat items (like carpet squares) to place on the piano bench to give the student the proper height at the piano so that their arms are parallel or slightly above parallel to the floor. This allows for maximum relaxation and proper technique in the beginning, so that good practice habits are established.
