another great read from Ruth Hogan
Interesting following Tilda’s life and untying her complicated relationship with her mother. Very poignant. We often do not understand as children that difficult decisions made by those who love us do so because they believe it is best for us.

Beautifully written lovely read
A beautiful descriptive book that takes you into the place where you see through the eyes of Tilly, Tilda and how not everything is as black and white as we thought , I grew up seeing as a child only now in later years I see things differently and how I missed so many things as a child my mother went through, what she did and more understanding of why , some I will never fully understand and now it's too late to ask and will never find out ,but this is a beautifully written book that I loved the characters and made a mark on me .

Spellbinding
I loved every word of this book, I couldn’t stop reading, desperate to know the outcome but not wanting it to end. The characters are beautifully written and there is a warmth to the story that made me want to read on and on.

Tackles mental illness and its effect on family
This was easy to read but depressing and jumps back and forth between childhood and adulthood. I would not describe it as uplifting but more of a warning not to judge without knowing the truth.

Wow!
I love this author and I love her books but this is the best - not just the best of hers, but the best I have ever read. It is laugh-out-loud funny at times and tear-jerkingly sad at others. It drops bombshells when you least expect them.

Ruth Hogan is brilliant at child characters and Tilly in this book is no exception.
There are many things I love about Ruth Hogan's writing, one of them being the way she structures her stories. This book is no exception. The unfolding of the intricately woven plot is a delight. The narrative is deliciously engaging and her characters are quirky and marvellous. I've now read all three of her published novels and had 'saved' this one as a special treat! And what a reward it turned out to be - beautifully observed and brilliantly presented. It managed to be moving, funny and sad in places. Ruth Hogan is brilliant at child characters and Tilly in this book is no exception. It's a wonderful story juxtaposing the past with the present, two entirely different perspectives, and her signature themes of love and loss.

Another gem
Having totally enjoyed Ruth’s first two books i had fairly high expectations of this, and i wasn’t disappointed.Once more Ruth dives into sensitive topics and tells a great story with not only compassion but also a wonderful touch of humour in all the right places.Written from the point of view of Tilly and Tilda. Tilly, the little girl who finds out her dad just died after he went away to work and Tilda, the grown woman whose mum just died and left Tilda her diaries of what really happened to her dad all those years ago — and a simple note saying “Forgive me”. Back and forth we go, a chapter at a time, between Tilly back then and Tilda now, and it works amazingly well as our story gets told and the truth gets revealed, piece by piece. And what a wonderful place the Paradise Hotel must have been for a child to live, if only for a while. A den of loveable, eccentric crackpots, delightful.Ruth is a wonderful writer who never fails to conjure up the most wonderful cast of characters to tell the stories about the damaged souls that life creates. I do hope for many more books from Ruth.

What's "normal"?
I have enjoyed all of Ruth Hogan's books that I have read, but Queenie Malone stands head and shoulders above even those. From the very first chapter, the author takes the reader on a delightful and often wonderfully funny, and it times heartbreakingly sad, journey alongside characters that might seem not "normal "to others, but are endearing, loving, and truly human. I highly recommend this book!

Un très beau livre !
Le récit est bien monté, l’écriture agréable et les personnages tous attachants. C’est de loin le meilleur bouquin que j’ai lu ces derniers mois.

Absolutely delightful!
I had just finished and loved The Keeper of Lost Things and I was a bit worried that I might be expecting too much from Queenie Malone's Paradise Hotel. I was not disappointed! It's even better! The characters are very well developed, the story filled with wonderful details and unexpected little gems... A delightful read!
