This is s really thorough, detailed explanation of many aspects of growing veg. Eliot Coleman shares so much of his decades of knowledge and experience of growing veg commercially on a fairly small scale family farm. He backs up his assertions with evidence and writes with a clear, unsentimental style, though he is passionate about the concept of growing healthy plants for the well being of his customers and the environment.I was totally inspired and went and bought two of his other books as a result!

My wife and I have just purchased 2.5 hectares in Sweden, half is forest and the theres a good block of 700 sq metres that hasn't been farmed in 50 years, just gone to grass... the aim is to begin a small scale organic operation... the thing is i've never really done this beforein looking for a book to guide me i read reviews and excerpts to many books, and finally thought Elliot Cole's New Organic Grower sounded like just the ticket... I don't think I'm wrong... this book is loaded with great advice and techniques suited to a home or small market gardneri was worried about such a book being used only to send me to sleep at nights, but Cole's style of writing is simple and engaging, and sometimes even witty... he's like that nice old uncle you always thought was smarter than your dad!then again the real proof will be in next year's crop.. right now i have a whole lot of preparation to do!BN.

Ive read quite a few books on this subject and this is one of the best. A fascinating book by someone who has really done it. I loved his intelligent, observant and practical approach, every problem thought through, underpinned by a real ethos. So many useful and practical tips. Thoroughly reccomend this book
