Excellent book !
Excellent book about this wonderful island, perhaps the most famous in the world because of its mystery. The pictures are so good and the text is so clear that I recommned the book for someone who is interested in Easter Island by the history, the geography and legend even if the island has not been visisted by first time. This book is an invitation for visiting this remote place in our planet. Enjoy it !!

seems to be one of the best publications covering island history
First saw this book in the Santiago Chile museum, hardcover, $100, so this smaller paperback version, for the price, seems to be one of the best publications covering island history, archaeology, theories and most importantly, good photographs (though not glossies) of the sites and statues.

Nice but pricey
I've been to beautiful Easter Island and was looking for a book that would a nice memory of that special trip. The two main disappointments of this book for me were its small size and price. It's 8 1/2 by 8 1/2 with a paper cover and about 123 pages of text and pictures. The price was an amazing $33.49. I was expecting a lot more for a book of that price. The cover has a glossy picture that wraps about 1/4 of the way onto the back cover. The rest of the back cover is just plain white...no picture or text. There are a lot of pictures that give a great representation of the sites of the island but again, I expected a book with this price tag to have slick pages and glossy pictures. This is not the case here. Maybe $10 for this book would be the right price. It looks like the book has a decent history of the island but I decided to return it because of the high price. If you don't mind spending $33.49 for a book like this, you might be pleased. I'm still looking for that book on Easter Island that will do this remarkable location justice.

Very interesting and beautiful book.
I've been in the island, and this book really represents and tell things about the culture and history of the place. I think that is very well writen and for a person who doesn't been there is a good way to learn a lot about Easter Island. Also if you want to go there, it would be a very good idea if you read it before, you'll be much more prepared.I really recomend the book, is interesting, it has very beautiful pictures and you can learn a lot about the history of this place.

Wonderful
I really enjoyed this book. You can clearly see that the writer knows what he is talking about. One of its most remarkable features is that it was written with quality and by a writer who obviously has been in touch with the island culture for a while, knowing how to do the difference between mythology and objective facts. I certainly recommend it.

Slighted reviews. Sounds like someone from the island or someone who knows the author gave positive reviews to sell books.

A rather thin text
Interesting and attractively presented with great photos but the text was not as detailed as I would have hoped for. Given the context of uncertainty that still surrounds many aspects of the demise of the culture of Rapa Nui - such as the exact effects of the contact with Europeans, the condition of the culture and ecology before this, the reasons for the 'toppling' of the Moai, the status of beliefs in different centuries, etc - a more detailed discussion would have been welcomed.

Good but lacking.
A good book, but the photos are not the quality I was expecting. An incredible location deserves an incredible book.
