The Cross Stitcher's Bible

This 1998 book is as contemporary today as when it was written. This book is chock full of designs, color and examples of unusual ways to add stitches and accent the fabric you choose to work on. It is a very good follow up to her, "The New Cross Stitcher's Bible." I enjoy the variety of motifs and explanations of different stitching techniques that complement a cross-stitch piece. So far, I haven't attempted Hardinger or other advanced techniques and think I would prefer to see them demonstrated before using them on a piece I am working. But, these designs are so thoughtfully worked out that even without using other stitches any piece would be lovely in cross-stitch alone. I find her explaination of fabric choices helpful and as always, appreciate the stitch guide and other information in the back of the book. Her charts are large, easily read, in color and symbol codes. Large pictures accompany each piece and stitch details are photographed when needed. There are a great variety of projects from Blanket Panels to unique Seasonal Florals, Embellished Pictures, Band Samplers and a Space Dyed Spot Motif Sampler in lively colors. Her Christmas Advent Calander features several lovely motifs which can be used as cards or ornaments if you wish. A special treat for me was the Sea Breezes Band Sampler. It's a happy and fun piece and I think it will be my next project.

The book arrived in great condition. I used it as a gift fora family friend who wants to learn how to do cross stitch.She finds it very useful.

This is an older book but has great designs and good instruction. Excellent reasonably priced reference.

It is an excellent book on crosstitch that describes it in detail and has an excellent in-depth stitch dictionary besides some beautiful motifs

I saw this book at the library. It had more information than I wanted to just get occasionally and I went home, went to Amazon and put in the ISBN. Presto! The book was here in 4 days. Lots of specifics about different stitches and lots of tiny cross stitched flowers that I can use on labels for my quilts. I use this a lot.

I bought it (and another cross stitching book) based on the review but suspected that reviewers' age was a factor. I was right. This book is really dated, filled with a lot of very old fashioned motifs and design (animal, country, floral...all too ornate and fussy). The modern cross stitching I admire on Etsy is all about geometric, spacial, digital, and simplicity.Someone needs to come out with new books on modern cross stitching to retire these outdated books.

One of the best hand stitching book. Love it. Very easy to understand.

For a used book this book was brand new I have been doing needle work for over 30 years and there was so many things in there to teach me I am looking forward to trying out new works after I have my eye surgery

I am a beginner at cross stitch, and had already started a piece of work i was so proud of, till i read the bible, i had done everything wrong, from knots to stitches not laying the same way.This book is an absolute must for any one taking up cross stitch, it explains so very easily all you need to know, and i am only on page 28, cannot wait to progress.Miss P Hardy.

This is perfect for the beginner, it explains the basics and has many clear colour photos. It is also perfect for the more experienced stitcher who wishes to expand to other techniques. With lots of designs and a stitch library. I would recommend this for all abilities.

Plenty of information for beginners and those more advanced. One to dip into as and when you come across a problem.
