My scope of choice... up there with the very best but substantially better value!
Optically the meopta Meostar S2 is up there with the best scopes on the market, easily holding its own with top-tier scopes from Swarovski, Leica and Zeiss. I've been using an S2 since reviewing it for Ireland's Wildlife back in 2012. It's a fantastic birding and wildlife observation optic, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. There are two eyepieces available (not included with the scope body): a sublime 30-60 Wide Angle eyepiece that retains the same apparent field of view throughout the zoom range, and a 20-70mm that offers that little bit of extra reach. I use the 30-60x and it's a superb eyepiece.The Meopta isn't cheap -- but when you consider you're getting optics that match scopes that cost double the price, it's remarkably good value for money. Just don't forget to order an eyepiece too.

The Meopta Meostar S2 82mm spotting scope optically holds it own against scopes from Zeiss, Swarovski and Leica, and in some areas (in my view) betters some of the scopes from the top brands. Although I don't have a Meopta, I was very impressed when I viewed through one repeatedly at the annual Rutland water Birdfair. It is very bright, razor sharp, and in my experience excels in colour contrast; separating out subtleties of colour and shade. The focus barrel is very smooth and precise making focusing fast and easy. There are two eyepiece options available; a wide angle 30 - 60 magnification zoom and a standard angle 20 - 70 magnification zoom. The extra 10x magnification over the normal maximum of 60 is a nice extra. It is an elegant design with a very solid build quality. The Amazon picture is misleading, since the offer here is for the body only. It doesn't come with a stay on case but Meopta have designed a very practical stay on case that is available for around £99. I would be mighty pleased to own such a fine scope.
