Australia Birds: A Folding Pocket Guide to Familiar Species (Wildlife and Nature Identification)

A useful pocket guide
The previous reviewer apparently did not read the description of this product. it is not a book or meant to be, but a fold-out pamphlet, in plastic so to be more durable, and quite handy in getting to know the most common birds of Wyoming.I have purchased a number of these for different regions and have always found them useful. Naturally, a book-length guide has much more info, but this pamphlet is far cheaper, fits in your pocket, and also distinguishes the more common species from ones rarely seen--which is not readily apparent in book-length guides. So it's valuable both for people with only a casual interest and also those with much experience, but who are visiting Wyoming for the first time. One problem with a pamphlet is that males, females, and juveniles can sometimes look quite different---so keep that in mind. For this or any guide, spend a little bit of time familiarizing yourself with the appearance of various species before going out in nature. Few things are more frustrating than to see a bird and then look frantically though the guide, only to find that it has flown away.

Compact, had every bird sighted or heard on tour.
Reference before doing a birding tour.

Great resource
This is a fantastic quick guide for the birds of Australia. If you are just looking for a basic way to identify the variety of birds, this is perfect as it is so easy to use, takes little space, and weighs nothing. If you are a real birder, you probably will want a full book version.

Good starter guide
Lightweight. Great primer for familiarizing myself with South Australia's birds. Left as a gift for my friends when I returned home.

Nice and Sturdy Pocket Guide
Handy quick reference guide. The guide is laminated so it is sturdy and the colors appear true. The birds are segregated into categories, upland birds, water birds, etc., so you can get a sense of what you may be seeing in each habitat. I am planning a trip in September to Wyoming and hope to find this guide useful.

It was exactly what my daughter needed for our trip! It fit in her little tote bag and she was thrilled to be able to identify several species of birds while we were out and about.

A good tourist summary
This is a useful little guide for the ordinarily interested in nature tourist who doesn't want to carry a book. Of course it can't get close to showing the several hundred species but it gets the common ones and an interested person will get an idea of the relevant bird families.

Would be good for visits to if you didn't want to carry ...
Exactly what we wanted! Our son and family are moving to Australia and can take this with them where ever they go. It's light and won't take up much space but has lots of information on it. Also the colours are very bright. Would be good for visits to if you didn't want to carry a book

Better than a book
Enhanced my holiday greatly. Made identification of the birds I saw much easier than ploughing through a book.
