Garmin GPSMAP 78S Marine GPS Navigator and World Wide Chartplotter (010-00864-01) (Renewed)

I chose this model over the smaller 22x series because of the screen size and wasn't disappointed. With more buttons on the panel, one can better get to the functions desired. Waterproof and buoyant, this is excellent for my sailing hobby. Advertising and specs don't point it out, but one of the displays is the CDI (course deviation indicator), which can be handier than the way pointer display. Once I found out (through some research) that this display was available, it was a simple decision.

Nice little unit. I did not realize that I would have to buy maps for land. I knew you had to buy marine charts, but not for land. It will still work for hiking. If I were to get lost on a mountain trail, it leaves a trail I can follow back to where I started. It says Lithium batteries or NiMh batteries, but I tested it with alkaline and they lasted 20+ hours. I would change them out at 20 hrs though.

Packs a lot of features for a hand held. I use it for fishing lakes and bays to mark structure or good areas. Cumbersome to input waypoints manually from charts or maps beforehand but it allows for a title or number and a description for each waypoint you enter. Very handy at a great price.

I used an older mounted Garmin handheld GPS as a second trip/nm computer in my boat, however, it was getting hard to read in the sunlight. This model Garmin has a much better display, is in color and is very readable in daylight. The money saved on buying a refurbished unit makes it a win-win!

This Garmin 78s handheld is great, somewhat easy to use after reading instructions. I would buy again. This 78s model replaced my 20 year old Garmin model that probably still worked BUT I left the batteries while in storage in WAY TOO long and ruined it with battery leaks. Remove batteries when storing!

Bought this to replace a Maps76 that Garmin stopped supporting with OS updates. Very similar in operation to the 76 but the screen and data blocks are smaller, when you shift from 4 to 2 blocks the two don’t get any bigger. I use it for night navigation on Lake Mead and Powell to return to the marina so being able to see the off course and turn info is very important. Interesting that this comes with “glide slope” navigation for aviation purposes, so they added more functions but in a smaller screen. It came with a power cord so I could plug into my power port and not worry about batteries. Overall happy with it I just think it was a step backwards to make the screen and data info smaller.

This is a fine instrument that meets my needs at a reasonable proce.

I previously purchase an Etrex 32s but the screen was unclear and the whole unit seemed insubstantial so I returned it . This refurb is less than half the price and works perfectly as a land based navigator. I bought it to load Komoot and Wikiloc routes for days out walking and it seems ideal for this. Works seamlessly with a second hand OS 1:50 map card. Even includes the wrist strap and looks and feels like a very well built new item.

Cumple de sobra con su funcion. Compatible con Basecamp. Empleado por mi en rutas senderistas, me ha funcionado perfectamente. Buena duracion de las pilas. Defectos: un poco anticuado, ya que solo dispone de sistema de posicionamiento GPS y no de Glonass ni Galileo. Es un poco grande. Como todo navegador, tiende a fallar el posicionamiento en paredes verticales de montaña, donde las señales GPS se reciben peor, pero este es un hecho comn a la practica totalidad de navegadores..

I was a little concerned what the item would be like because it's refurbished. But the item looks brand new and seems to work perfectly - the only indication that it's not brand new is that it came in a non-retail box. Great item, incredibly good value for money. Thanks!

Gran GPS, muy recomendable comprar reacondicionado, visualmente es nuevo, sin señales de uso, posiblemente sería devuelto por no ser lo que buscaban, el descuento es muy considerable, sobre 150€ más barato que siendo nuevo. Sin duda una gran compra
