What type of cable is required to use with this connector?

Hello, we're glad you asked and we apologize for the delayed response. This connector is rated for round cord types S, SO, ST, 8/3+10/1 to 4/4, .83 minimum to 1.25-inch maximum (21.1 to 31.8 mm) diameter, with a terminal capacity of 8 AWG to 4 AWG for line contacts, and 10 AWG to 4 AWG for the ground contact. We hope this helps!

What material is the center ground pin made of? It seems prone to corrosion.

The center pin is an alignment pin, not the ground connection. This alignment pin is plated steel. Hope this help, thank you for your inquiry!

My generator out put is 120/240v 30a locking outlet but i need to plug into 50amp transfer switch. can i just attach this to a 30 amp cord?

You should check with a local licensed electrician on any code restrictions. Technically, since your generator has a 30 amp output, using a larger amp plug should not matter.

What is the point in the center?

The center is NOT a ground, it’s just a guide to keep it straight. The ground is the tab on the outside circumference.
