Snippets: A Story About Paper Shapes

So simple and so smart!
It all started with Scribble, then came the Dots, the Shapes, and the Snippets! On one of the rare weekends I was home, away from work, my son gathered the whole series, grabbed his paints, scissors, and constructions papers, and said he wanted to make scribbles, dots, shapes, and snippets with me! We spent more than 2 hours cutting, coloring, talking, and laughing! The next day, and the following, and the following, for almost a month now, son started to build a whole Snippet City (seriously, I need to vacuum now!). A city complete with walls, houses, fire station, zoo, bridges, trees, roads, even signs. My son has gone crazy creative--and all he needed was paper, crayons, a scissors, and...well...some time with mom! He even asked me to take pictures so he could send them to the author. What more can a children's book accomplish? Thank you Ms. Alber!

A heartwarming story that combines IQ and EQ!
Snippets is a phenomenally engaging story that touches on some heavy topics for any child, fitting in, diversity, and how different isn't a bad thing. Throughout all of this story the author has managed to incorporate a basic geometry lesson and teaching children to identify shapes throughout! My niece and nephew were fully engaged on both fronts, with the capping moment, as we closed the book, being them pointing to the book and yelling "rectangle!". Strongly recommend!

Good story
The book itself has a great message and is a really cute story. Not only is it about accepting others who are different and working together to make extraordinary things, but I plan to use it in my classroom as the start of our artist week and show the children all the scraps they “snip” can be put together to make a beautiful piece of work. The down side is the binding was already broken when I received the book. This is not a book I can let the students use by themselves because it will fall apart.

Love the story!
What a great perspective on being unique! This is a wonderful story about inclusion and celebrating one’s unique talents and gifts. Great jumping off point for a collage project in art class too.

An exciting story of kindness and imagination
This story is absolutely adorable! Not only were my kids and I engaged to see what was going to happen next, they were taught a lesson in kindness as well! Their imaginations ran thinking about all they could do with those snippets! Wonderful story!

Great book.....buy the series
This is a great book to read with your children. It opens their minds, is quite engaging....my kids wanted to make "Snippets" immediately. The entire series is great. I plan to purchase them again to donate to my children's school. I think they are great for all kids to read and to have in their library at home. Enjoy. This book will not disappoint.

Wonderful Story
Snippets is a great tale about shapes, from squares and triangles to more complex shapes. The shapes all come together to create many different possibilities and combinations. I appreciate the "Next Steps" page at the end of the book, which provides talking points for discussion.

Beautiful story inspiring creativity
Diane’s books are all great sources of inspirations for children (and adults) - not only for arts and crafts projects but also to challenge us to see things differently, accept imperfections, and find value in seemingly useless things. I highly recommend this book to all families with young children and schools working with preschool, kindergarten, and early elementary grades.

I'm impressed!
Set in alternate rhyme, Diane Alber's children's book SNIPPETS is a revelation of how being different from others can eventually increase the possibility of a unifying diversity. The rejection by others may rebound and become a blessing for the ostracized and for those who initially enforced the rejection. Mrs. Alber artfully relates how otherness need not be a barrier but can instead prove beneficial for all concerned. I'm impressed!
