Great station, great price
Great soldering station for the money, i'm honestly surprised it's not more expensive.Soldering is good ( I don't like the roller that holds solder, keeps falling off whenever i want to move the stand, plastic + 500+ degree soldering iron = not a good combination. I would like a lock that keeps it on there, but i've just taken it off and left it off. ) Other than that, I like the stand a lot better than the cheap spring holders that are popular now. The two bonus tips are great!Hot air is good. It's really loud and sounds like it's going to shake itself apart when the system is warming up and cooling down! So don't let that scare you the first time, be prepared. MAKE SURE YOU REMOVE THE RED SCREW ON THE BOTTOM!! It's a really obvious note, but you'd be surprised at how easy it is to overlook! Heats up VERY quickly ( both iron and hot air )The instructions are extremely vague and unhelpful, but this isn't really a beginner station, so it's understandable.***If you look up other pictures of this item, it will show the hot air the wrong way around, Don't put it like that! It's very unstable. The holder works much better if it's on like it is in the main picture on amazon, that's the way it's supposed to be.Comes with a pretty good sponge.Overall, great station! The only con is the loudness of the pump.

Pro quality unit for low price
Make sure you remove the red screw from the bottom of unit before use (screw secures air pump for shipping). This is a high quality unit. The temperature controls on the soldering iron are very accurate, and the air flow is more than adequate. The air flow dials are labeled 1-8 for both heat and air flow. I did a couple experiments to give myself a feel for the settings before attempting to use it on a real board:- with the air flow midway (4/8), hold a piece of solder in front of the nozzle and turn the heat dial up waiting about 10 seconds per increment until the solder melts. For me, 60/40 solder with a melting point of 340f melted at about 3/8 on the heat dial.- using a scrap of junk pcb, experiment with different heat and air flow settings and see how long it takes to burn / bubble the pcb. This exercise gives you a feel for how long it takes to ruin a board :)- after some experimentation, I found that 4/8 on each dial was just right to desolder SMT components from some old boards I had lying around- 2/8 heat and 6/8 air works great for heat shrink tubingThe hand iron is controlled with a dial marked with temperature in c/f. For me the dial was extremely accurate. Set to the low setting (392f) it heats up enough to melt my 340 solder in about 20 seconds.

GOOD VALUE
You cannot beat what you get for the money. Hot air works well for taking off and putting on SMD, just go slow until you learn how much air and how much heat to use for the application. I used this to remove and populate QFN Chipsalso was able to remove and populate heavily heat sinked components. The iron is average and had to beef up the handle insulation because it was getting to hot to hold properly. At work I use very high end tools, which this is not, but for my home projects this device works just fine.

Pretty Good for What you pay for
This rework station is pretty good (also far cheaper than many other stations), my only issue is the vibration on cool down. Great piece of gear for hacking or fixing things. Would recommend to others.

shake rattle and roll cure
Silly me, I forgot to remove the bottom shipping screw, painted red.Air is still noisy!OKAY --It sounded like something was loose inside. All four of the nylon circuit board standoffs had broken at the back panel. So I replaced all of them with some short #4-40 nylon standoffs with nylon nuts on the circuit board side, and #4-40 screws with washers on the back panel. Because the pump vibrates like crazy I assembled everything with locktite threadlocker. Also added some self adhesive cable clips to the wire harnessses running down each side, for good measure. It's almost silent now compared to what it was! Used one of these heavily all last year, and never burned out the hot air heating element. Killed one iron and a bunch of tips though. These are very durable units, with a few weaknesses. Fixed with a shrug for the price paid.

Solid rework station
The manual is a bit opaque as to how the system is supposed to behave. Right out of the box, I plugged in the hot air tool, soldering iron, and electrical plug.
