Is Paris Burning?

A Classic
Digital version. The dubbing of some of the dialogue is just what it is. There is no getting around that this is a classic movie that covers the resistance in Paris, and no other movie does. The cinematography is excellent. Actual historic film is inserted here and there and is blended in well enough. Lots of historic actors of the period are in the movie, and though I remember them all, younger audiences will likely not feel nostalgia, either for the actors, nor the movie itself I suppose. I remember it well, and really enjoyed watching it again. Could it be better? yes. It is a shame about the dubbing where done, but the movie is still a classic and Paris ( of the war) ( and in the 60's when this was shot ) is really the star of the movie anyway.

It is not, and this is why
One of the best WW2 based films ever made. Two stories; first the one about the Parisians preparing to fight off the Germans when they hear the Americans are coming, and the German general who has fallen in love with the city, and ultimately gives his life to save it from destruction by his own army. IMO, one of the finest theme songs ever written.

Amazing research
The only reason I haven't given this 5 stars is because it had TOO much detail! Initially, I thought it was part fact, part fiction, but when I read the Acknowledgements, I realized that it was all factual. A superb description of the complex factors in the liberation of Paris.

This book was a good accounting of the liberation starting from a few weeks ...
I recently returned from a trip to Paris and caught just a little history of the WWII occupation and liberation. This book was a good accounting of the liberation starting from a few weeks prior with the appointment of General Colditz as the commander of Paris up to his surrender. It could be used as a good travel guide to visit areas of Paris that were key during the liberation, including Notre Dame, St. Michel, Hotel De Vile, Hotel Maurice, Tulieries, Arc De Triumpth, etc. The depth and tempo of the book was just about right for me.

A great WWII book...
Towards the end of the war Hitler ordered the destruction of Paris, which of course was never carried out. This book covers the occupation of Paris and its evacuation by the Germans. It also is about the wiring of Paris for total destruction and the general with a heart who could not order its bombing. A great read if you like war stories...

I read this book when I was in High School at my father's recommendation and loved it. This is my second time and it is a well written history book that is exciting, frightening and sad. I loved it and highly recommend it to anyone who loves history. I wish history books in school were written like this one. Our children would love history!

Yes it could have burned!
This is a most interesting piece of film for it highlights the events that the French undertook to save their city from Nazi ruin. Paris is a historical landmark not only for the French but for the world. It is very well detailed from the very beginning to its end. The end result is that the Nazi general in charge, saw the true facts that Germany would lose the war and that it would be aberration of war to destroy such a historic and monumental city of all ages. It is very reminiscent to the Longest Day. Having these two films as part of your WWII collection is a must!

Wonderful book
I read this years ago. It is still enthralling. I like the fact that Kindle lets me look up different people, see photos and check out what happened to them.
