Dovetail Marker

It's bigger than I expected, which is very nice. Has really weight to it, and it's very accurate. I have to say, I'm very pleased with this purchase!

Very handy at a great price. I was surprised with the quality and I like the 4 angle options. I was considering the Veritas markers until I came across this one. They cost the same price for individual angles.

The overall design of this jig is good. It has 4 separate dovetail angles including 1:7, which I like to use. The base is metal and the angle jig is secured with 2 screws. When I got the jig, the screws were loose. When I went to tighten them, I noticed the threads in the base were a bit sloppy and I had to align the angle jig using its edge and the edge of the base to align. It seems to me that for $22, the machining could have been more precise.

Pros: - great price, especially with what you get - Solid metal construction that will hold up over time - etched markings won't wear away - center section is heavy brass for stability when marking - center section is in line with inside and outside dovetail edges to help mark the other face. Cons: - The steel portion is not smoothed, a small diameter mechanical pencil tends to catch, bounce, or break lead. This has little effect on my marking knife. - The chamfers on the brass are rather large, so it's harder to find the actual edge to mark the 90 degree cut with a mechanical pencil. It's not a problem with marking knife, which can lay against the side. Overall, this was exactly what I wanted in a dovetail layout tool and should last much longer than the plastic one I used in the past. The only thing that kept me from giving 5 stars was the metal finish that made it difficult to use a fine mechanical pencil, but I can adapt to it or smooth the rough edges a bit. Aside from that, I'm very pleased with this purchase and would strongly recommend it, especially if you use a marking knife instead of a mechanical pencil.

This is a very simple , but well made dovetail reference. It saves time and is virtually indestructible with even an ounce of care. I will be using mine most likely for the rest of my life.

This marking gauge is nicely made. Since I have purchased it I usually only use it to mark pins first then I mark out the tails using the cut-out pins. So I dont fully utilize this tool. Plus if I dont perfectly cut the pins I mark the tails from what I have cut (wrong or right) and they match up. It is a nice tool.

I use for dovetail and since the center of the tool lines up with the face cut, there's no need to reposition the tool to make the end grain mark and that makes this work very nicely. I it a solid piece and looks like it will last forever.

The two screws were loose when I recieved it in the mail which means I'll have to square it myself and tighten it. I feel as though they couldve just done that from factory. Additionally, I'm not sure if this is a positive or a negative however I'd like to note that all of the steel portions edges are ridiculously sharp and feel unfinished. The interior edges of the brass section are also very sharp and feel unfinished almost like they didnt even remove the burr from the edge.

If you are new to making dovetails or need to produce a decent number this gauge works well. It is well made, gives a decent number of options for joint size and helps consistency. Good value for money. I use this a lot and it is a real help.

It’s just what it looks like. Has good weight and sits on your end piece nicely. I’ve only had it a week and used it a few times but I like it so far.
