Second-Rate Bio For First-Rate Musician
At best, a shallow confection of a biography, at worst a factually erratic load of myth-making about a man - Carlos Santana - whose life needs no embellishment in order to impress. The book's timeline is confusing, making it seem, for example, as if Santana was into Jimi Hendrix before Hendrix had even released his first album or appeared in the United States prior to Monterey. Less subjective, however, are Shapiro's egregious spelling mistakes and factual errors. He even totally screws up the discography. The books reads as if only second and third-hand sources were used and Shapiro never actually interviewed his subject. Shameful.
