The low noise fan and included heatsinks move enough air to avoid throttling during compiles, and the NVMe hat turns the little board into a zippy mini server. Fitment is tight but precise, ports line up, and the lid clears the M.2 without weird flex. Assembly takes a patient 15 minutes, tiny screws and standoffs demand a magnetized driver. Noise is present but library quiet, good for a desk or van build. Durability gets high marks, this thing feels like it could survive a gear bag tumble. Value is solid if you care about performance and storage speed, less so if you are running basic GPIO projects. Size is still backpack friendly and the all metal shell looks clean next to audio gear. Access to the microSD and headers is workable, just plan your wiring before you button it up.

I’ve been using this premium metal case with PCIe NVMe hat for my Raspberry Pi 5 (8GB) for about a week and a half, and the construction quality is solid with well designed components that improve both functionality and cooling performance. The metal case provides robust protection for the Pi 5 while maintaining access to all ports. The removable cover makes installation and maintenance straightforward. The case feels substantial without being excessively heavy, and the fit is precise for the Pi 5 board. The PCIe expansion board X1001 integrates cleanly into the setup. Installing an M.2 NVMe SSD (I used a 2280 length drive) significantly improves storage performance compared to SD card or USB storage. The expansion board mounts securely and connects to the Pi’s PCIe interface without issues. The active cooler for the Pi 5 CPU is effective at managing temperatures. The temperature controlled fan adjusts speed based on load, ramping up during intensive tasks and remaining quiet during idle or light use. I picked up this premium metal case combo for my 8GB model, and it has completely transformed my single-board computer into a miniature desktop powerhouse. First, the build quality of the metal case is exceptional. It feels heavy, durable, and premium, acting as a giant passive heatsink to help draw heat away from the board. When paired with the included low-noise bearing system fan and copper heatsinks, the thermal performance is absolutely outstanding. Very functional. The speed is controlled by which version Pi you install in it. I chose a 16GB version. The build quality is great, there are no sharp edges and all the needed access holes are there. It comes with the NVMe hat and Pi 5s have a built in power switch so the normal compatibility issues aren't issues at all. At $36 (with coupon) this case is quite a value. As a matter of fact, this kit and a low power, used, OEM M.2 2230 SSD (<$50) makes entering the world of Pi quite economical. I am using one to teach my 10 year old neighbor Linux (he thinks Batocera is a game) — he’s having too much fun to realize he’s learning!

As other reviewers have mentioned, this unit can be a bit more difficult to assemble than other comparable cases. I think anyone who has assembled a pc before or has experience working with RPis before will be absolutely fine, but I can see how this would be annoying for someone just entering the hobby. To those of you, I recommend treating this like a Lego set, just follow the directions to the best of your ability. The metal is pretty flimsy and you can easily snap it if you try to force it, so you have to go slow. The fit and finish of the metal is okay, machined edges were mostly smooth and beveled but there was a sharp corner here and there. The powdercoat on the outside looks good but not very uniform on the inside and a bit sloppy. Functionally, I was able to assemble it with minimal issues and it has been performing just fine as a case. There is room for one M.2 KEY-M NVMe SSDs (2230/2242/2260/2280 length) as well as the included active cooler. The unit functions perfectly as a case, the X1001 supported a M.2 SSD I tested with the setup. The active cooler appeared to be running but the metal case acts like a heatsink and once it gets hot, the active cooling isn't really making much of a difference. I personally don't love the aesthetics of the case and will be looking for something lighter and a bit more travel friendly as I don't want to throw this in a bag or case loose with other electronics. I don't know if this is really that great of a value because there are better offerings at the same price point. This performs the basic functions of a case with ssd expansion and active cooling but there are just so many more better looking, better made, more interesting cases than what this offers. I'd skip this one.
