I am so happy to write a review about this fireplace backing
I am so happy to write a review about this fireplace backing. I LOVE it! My furnace thermostat can be at 70 degrees but everything in my house is still cold to the touch. But when I am using my fireplace, it can still be at 70 degrees and everything in my livingroom is warm to the touch because my fireplace now throws out heat approximately 12 feet away...it is just wonderful and cozy! It saved me having to have a gas line plumbed to my fireplace and having to install a $3K gas firelog glass-enclosed fireplace. I so much love real wood more! It is cheaper! So again, I just love ithe backing, it is reasonably and affordable priced, and recommend it...as well as the feet that hold it steady...don't want it to fall forward if there was a quake or something.

Great fireback
Fits well and radiates heat from the fire. A very good quality fire-back.

Surprisingly Effective
We've used this fireback since November 2021 and the warmth reflected into the room is surprising. The felt warmth used to be within a few feet of the hearth and now extends at least eight feet into our family room. Our home is older and much less energy efficient than homes we've lived in in other states, so I'd never had an issue with a fireplace not making a room feel cozy. This fireback has made our fireplace a true heat source vs. the cozy-looking accent it had been.

Heat Output is Definitely Noticeable
I've had close to 50 fires with the same five friends and all said they noticed a considerable difference in heat output with this fire back in place. My thermostat in the room echoed our opinion: my hottest fire ever registered 82 degrees in my living room (starting from 63 degrees), only after adding tons of dried wood with some roaring flames. I had just a few logs with this fire back in place and my room registered 79. Forty pounds, to me, seems that it's pretty sturdy. My only complaint is the price: had a hard time shelling out $200 for a piece of metal. But in the long run: yes, it works.

Cracked after 3 months use
After probably only about 15 fires, the fireback cracked. We have a small fireplace, the fires weren't very hot, so I assume it was just poorly cast.Disappointing considering how expensive it was.

Also like that it is heavy enough to stand without use ...
serves purpose of protecting back firewall which is all I wanted. Not convinced it produces more heat. Also like that it is heavy enough to stand without use of support feet.

It does the job
I like the simplicity of the plain design. I needed it to protect the damaged brick at the back of my fireplace. I have it elevated on cast iron supports and it fits well with my old grate and andirons. I did think it might have been reconditioned as the front of the fireback was not entirely smooth (a very slight but noticeable depression measured about 4” in length) but I guessed and hoped this flaw was cosmetic because I needed to use it right away. Two roaring fires later I think it works well.
