THESE DEFINITELY ARE GREAT TO HAVE AND WORK GREAT
THESE DEFINITELY ARE GREAT TO HAVE AND WORK GREAT! I had bought these over five years ago and always wore them around my neck whenever I skated on ponds or lakes. On January 3, 2015, I went to skate on a pond which I had been on before and always assumed it was shallow because it is not very large. It was 10am and no one else was skating when I got there. The day before I had checked it out and decided to give it another day to get thicker. People were skating on the other part of the pond to the south that day. So on Jan 3, I put on my skates and went about 20 yards and fell through the ice. I had to tread water to keep my head out of the water. I immediately concentrated on getting the ice picks in my hands and started to pull myself out by stabbing them into the ice. The ice broke for a couple of feet, but then the ice was strong enough to support me. I slid my upper body onto the ice and kept pulling myself with the picks and then the rest of me followed. I kept pulling myself towards shore until I heard the sound of an aluminum extension ladder. I looked up and saw a man on shore with a ladder next to him about fifteen feet from me. I got up on my knees to rest a bit. He said I did pretty good and probably didn't need the ladder, but I told him to put it out anyway. I stood up and went to shore. His daughter, who had witnessed my falling through, was holding a blanket for me. They invited me into their home which was right there. After giving me warm clothes and hot tea, they told me that part of the pond is the deepest and has a spring below causing the ice to be thinner there. The father told me he was impressed by how I got back onto the surface. I told him it was only possible because of the ice picks.

Very Basic
These emergency ice picks are very basic. They don't stay together very well, I've accidently dropped them several times while ice fishing. I haven't had to use them for their intended purpose but I'm going to test them later this spring.

Pretty good ice safety picks
Pros: Coiled tether means you can keep these around your neck where they will be easier to get hold of than in your pocket. They stay stuck together well, and don't fall apart.Con: Would be better if a whistle was integrated into the handle. This is emergency equipment, and that could be a life saving feature.

I hope I never have to use them.
I've seen lots of reviews saying these don't stay together but stay together just fine. They look to be sturdy enough that you could pull yourself out if you need to.

I fell through the ice.
I live in northern MN. I wear these around my neck when I’m near the ice. I fell through this winter on deep lake in Clearbrook MN. I had them around my neck, I didn’t use them to get out. Because I was able to lean back and pull myself. But I recommend having these at all times while on ice.

Great seller, mediocre product
Fast shipper. The holes do not align on the red ice picks so you have to use a rubber band wrapped around both ends to hold them together if you want to wear these around your neck. I have over 15 pairs of safety picks, the orange ones match up holes better and hold together.

Won’t stay together
I’m beginning to expect low quality from Eagle Claw. I ordered 3 of these self rescue picks and one pair won’t stay together. I’ll do something to make that pair stiffer to pull apart rather than go through the return hassle. On my next trip I’m going to lay down on the ice and try to pull myself. I’ll let you know if they fail.

Unsure
Can’t really write a review on something I haven’t used nor do I hope to use

Meh
The pick parts are supposed to nestle in a hole on the opposite handle. They don’t fit snug so the picks pop apart frequently. I only use them on early season ice then they go in with my first aid kit since the ice near me is almost 3’ thick by now. But if you live somewhere where you need to keep them on you at all times, the poor fit would get tiresome.

Great Ice Safety Product
Exactly what I expected. Well made and lightweight. I feel a lot better skating on remote mountain lakes with these.

Does not lock in together
The ice picks do not stay together around your neck, they fall off. Not happy with the product

Doesn't stick together
The media could not be loaded. Literally doesn't stick together at all, no friction. Slides right out when you connect them. There's gotta be a better model to buy then this especially when your life might be on the line.
