Salton's game has seriously slipped.
Purchased 9/27/2016. Stopped working 4/11/2017. Our previous one lasted maybe 8 years. This one was closer to 8 months. I would expect a $70 item to be better made.

Ready Rice! NOT!!!
UPDATE: Take back anything good I said about this item. It shorted out (almost had a wire fire) in under a year - I should've returned it but just tossed it instead. DON'T BUY IT!!!I bought the Salton 3-cup rice cooker over the negative reviews of several people. However, with a little tweaking, it does what I want it to do perfectly! The criticism that rice sticks to the bottom happened only one time. After that,I started to add a bit (a TBS or 2) more water than the book recommends, and sometimes I put a tiny drop of oil on the bottom & spread it around w. paper towel or fingertip. No more sticking! The criticism that it boils over? ONCE that happened to me, & that was when I tried to cook Trader Joe's Harvest Blend multi-grains & pasta in it. This cooker does brown rice and quinoa for me with no problems. We're just 2 people & the bigger, fancier ones were not for me.

RIP
After nearly six faithful years, King Salton has passed. His legacy will be remembered by the numerous times he dutifully cooked 1-3 cups of rice. Friends of the Salton will remember that the Salton made the best rice if the rice was washed thoroughly first and then left to cool for 20 minutes after cooking. Salton cooked a wide variety of rice excellently, so long as it was white. While he attempted to offer steamed vegetables and brown rice, his subjects were never very impressed. What do you expect from a King that costs less than $20?Some say his final cause of death was a defective heating unit that caused the thermal fuse to trip. Others say he wanted to pursue his dreams of being a baker. I say it was my Chinese girlfriend who worked him to death by demanding rice every single day.

Cheap, effective, makes good rice
For the price, it does what it does admirably. A one-trick pony, it makes rice. It makes rice well. What else could I ask for? Simple, effective. Worth the price for sure.

Mine's old enough to drink (US)
I've had mine for over twenty years, use it probably once a month or a bit less, and it's still working fine. The rice does stick to the bottom, especially if you forget to 'fluff' it after it finishes cooking, but I can live with that.

$100 bucks? Are you CRAZY?
Very standard rice cooker. Worth maybe $20. Worked fine until it just stopped working. Inner liner is not non-stick and scratches very easily. Functional, but certainly not anything to write home about.
