SANWA GT-8F 4/8 Way Restrictor Plate Gate JLF Series Joystick (1 Pcs GT-8F)

Tl;dr - Easy to install even on a stock Mayflash F101 joystick, 4-way mode helps make movement more precise in games like Pac-Man. Buy this if you're looking for a 4-way or alternating gate, get an octagonal gate if you just need an 8-way.I bought a fight stick (Mayflash F101 specifically) with the intent of emulating some retro arcade games on MAME. Doing some research, I also found out that installing a 4-way restrictor gate was the best way to get the stick to control well in these games, so I picked this one up (despite it having no reviews).As far as the gate itself goes, the centerpiece spins to alternate between a diamond 4-way and a square 8-way (which tends to not be preferred in fighting games apparently; buy an octagonal gate if you just need an 8-way). I bought the 1 piece one, which seemed to make me press down on the side opposite to the one that stuck out and spin the centerpiece from there (this also required some force, I don't even know if I was doing it right but I got it done).I'm not very experienced with fight sticks so I was unsure how installing it would go, but it was surprisingly easy. All you have to do is unscrew the old gate under the joystick, take it out by pressing down on the 4 latches (it requires a decent bit of force but not too much), and place the new one in. This gate fits perfectly in place of the one that comes with the F101's stock joystick, so you don't actually need a Sanwa joystick to install this on a Mayflash.After getting my fight stick back together, I decided to test this out by booting up Pac-Man in MAME and it works pretty well. I was able to make sharp turns pretty easily due to the diamond shape guiding the stick to the proper location. Since the gate prevents your joystick from accidentally hitting the corners, I barely missed any movements due to the wrong switches being hit (a common problem while trying to play 4-way games on an 8-way stick). The performance isn't perfect due to it being installed on the stock joystick, but if I do ever upgrade to a Sanwa stick it would probably be much better.

This was a great fit Mayflash arcade F300. It allows to make the stick a true 4way for pac-man, Dig-dug, and other MAME arcade classics. To change the inners piece of the adapter for 4way simply push in slightly and twist. It was not hard to install but I will probably not look to change it out back and forth to avoid breaking it.

I switched to an octagonal gate and misplaced my original square gate. This was a replacement and it fit perfectly.

Swapped out the restrictor plate in my MK arcade1up. This was perfect, and installed in seconds.
