Choose one: Samson Rope Splicing Tool FID 1/4", 5/16", 3/8", 7/16", 1/2", 9/16", 5/8", 3/4", 7/8", or 1"

I ordered two of these from CBKnot, the 3/8 measured an interior diameter of 6.1mm and the 7/16 measured an interior diameter of 7.9mm. Using these measurements I would have to order fids 3 sizes larger to actually fit the diameter rope these were designed for.

These fids are made in the USA by the Samson Co. and sold by an American company headquartered in the State of Washington. Excellent communication and service and a quality product. An instructional DVD was included in my order and I'll soon be on my way to making quality splices.

This fid is of reasonably good quality but the fid for 1/4" & 5/16" rope is way too small. The outside diameter is .220" and the inside is slightly larger than 5/32". Could not use on my 5/16" rope.

You just get the 1 tool. And with the rope I got, it is VERY hard to use. I have the tool that is recommended for the size of a rope . I had to cut the tool out of the rope on the last step of the loop . It would not go all the way through. I will try one more time using soap as lube.

I gave this five stars because it is what it is, it is just an aluminum rod with a pointed end and a hollowed out end, but for the job it does it is perfect!

This is a very solid fid. My four stars is due to the end of the fid only having minimal depth to feed the rope into to pass it through. I just thought it could be a little deeper. Now, please note, I am very new at this and there may be very good reason they are built this way.

This tool would work ONLY if you have double braided rope ....I didn’t and could not do a splice. I have 5 ***** because the tool was nice but I had the wrong rope.
