a well of wisdom
Tony de Mello was a catholic cristian, a priest and a jesuit. But he was also born in India and was full of its ancient wisdom and culture. He had a degree in psicology and traveled all the world teaching. He is said to be the person who understood best St. Ignatius of Loyola "spiritual excercises" and thought. He shared his spiritual experiences with many gurus in India and many cristians in Europe and America. In this book he writes old legends from India, teachings from the hinduist holy books, and uses them to teach us how to know ourserlves, and in the process become better cristians, and more important, better people.Soul, world, creatures... all are part of the wonderful mosaic of life and ultimately of God.Thus, Tony de Mello is a bridge between western world and eastern culture, cristianism and budism and hinduis, between body and soul.Sadly, his work was not understood by cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, later to become pope Benedict XVI, then in charge of the inquisition (also known as Congregation for Faith) and his works were banned as not conforming with catholic faith. This fact in my opinion, makes his works -and particularly this book-the more commendable.

The best way to show the truth is in parables
Brilliant book of little amusing parables that deepen the search for truth and reveal our dysfunctional beliefs inflicted on us by society and upbringing. You can choose a story to read each day, fantastic addition to anyone's book shelf.
