Awesome, study, well-made tool
We ordered the competition. Made of plastic and went through three in about 45 days. They kept breaking at the same point on the lower base of the unit causing one of he jaws to limply hang there and not move. I really have to believe the company of this competing big name product knows of the problem but expects us to keep coming back to the trough and buying another. Looked at Amazon for one made at least mostly of metal (the top handle is mostly plastic, but really has o be. Metal would be hard to handle, sorry for the pun). This is it! Looks strange. It takes bout a day to learn to use this one as you clasp the bottom pieces together, but you can't grab too deep in the grass or it becomes a weed puller! After the first day I found this one easier to use than the original as it would fit into our Wal-Mart sacks we used to deposit the dog gifts into. We've ad this one unit for 45 days without issue and I expect it to last much, much longer. Great to see such craftsmanship again!Just an update as I see this is still available for sale. It's now, February 3 2013, and although we keep this device outside in the elements, ready for use, it's almost in the same condition it was when we bought it. Quite a difference from the plastic, more expensive ones we were buying at Petsmart and online every 3 or 4 more months prior to finding this great tool. Kudos

Best pooper-scooper
This is the best pooper scooper. We just got it in the mail and I agree with previous reviewers that the construction is a little flimsy but it is the most effective scooper on the market. The long teeth on both sides of the scooper are extremely effective at getting into the grass below the poop and scooping it up with the first scoop. There is no wiggling, re-scooping, or trying to pull the poop off of each blade of grass. It is just amazing how quickly and effortlessly it cleans up the poop. We have 2 golden retrievers and it is impossible to get all the poop out of the grass, especially after it rains and it rains a lot in the NW. I was shocked when in 10 minutes I was able to clean up the yard with no residue left in the grass (after a week of not scooping due to so much rain). I only hope that the construction of the scooper holds up. Even if it breaks after a few months, I will buy it again. The plastic scooper only lasted a little over a month and it would have taken 45 min to do the same job. I am very impressed with this scooper.

This feels very flimsy,
I was really excited to finally find a metal scooper, but this one is extremely flimsy. I have 3 dogs in a large fenced yard I clean up after, and the scooper works well enough, but without sides the poop can slide right out as I'm transferring to the barrel. Also every once and a while the teeth get stuck together. I've only used it for a week, and it does get the job done well, I just really wish it had sides so I could pick up more than one pile at a time.

My 1y.5 mo. German Shepherd will keep this one buzy.
I was concerned about open jaw design when I bought this one, but it works much better then two jumbo plastic scoopers that I bought before. Both of them were of traditional design and broke after 2-3 month of weekly use. This one;s jaws open much wider and allow the user to scoop the landmine of a substantial size and various consistency in one try. The only concern that I have is the thin steel cable that connects the jaws to a squeeze handle. Will update on its durability in a couple of months. But overall smart design that beats the plastic scoopers. Update: cable broke after 2 months, I replaced it with a thicker one, then the strips that are pulling the jaws broke. I guess nothing lasts forever...

NOT WORTH A POOP UPDATE
2 big problems with this tool. 1. the natural/normal position of the claws is open and because there is no lock to keep the claws closed you have to keep the claws closed with finger pressure for the distance it takes to empty the waste. poop bags dont fit and poop transfer into bags is not easy. 2. the metal claws are not stiff enough to penetrate into longer grass and thus this is only useful on flat surfaces (sand, blacktop, dirt) and not on long or even moderate length grass. sorry guys! 3. THE METAL CLAWS ARE TOO FAR APART TO CAPTURE AND HOLD LOOSE STOOL so, poor design and better options exist on amazon.

You can always win with this claw game!
I am a tall person, this is a long scooper. The ability to accurately pluck my dog's massive dooks from the grass without having to bend down is huge. Almost as huge as his turds, which this is able to pluck from the grass with pinpoint accuracy. I am also able to peel his rain flattened poop puddles with relative ease. The capacity (crapacity?) Is impressive as well. With a bit of maneuvering I can carry three or four piles of his leavings. This is an excellent scooper. Light weight, but sturdy for the turdy. The claws really dig in and snatch the nuggets from their hiding spots in deep grass. I really like how long it is. I have seen really short ones in stores and I have no idea who could possibly want to get that close to a steamy pile.I have two issues, both minor. The handle is good but the trigger could be longer. The claws mesh with each other and can get stuck together, requiring a little effort to unstick. I will gently bounce the stuck side on the ground and it will release. I'm not getting my hands down there because poop.

Most practical scooper around
This scooper is the best one I’ve used. The claw scoop picks up well even in grass. My only complaint is the mechanism at the claws have come apart at the rivet. Most recently the trigger broke. I think that might have been too much outside/sun.I will keep this new one in the garage not out in the weather.
