Extraordinary historical overview of Santa Fe New Mexico's illustrious and unique 350 year history
Anyone who loves Southwest US early history of discovery, culture and geography especially Santa Fe will love this beautifully written book by Ruth Laughlin. Santa Fe is perhaps my favorite US city of all, unique because of it's rich integrated cultural past first by the early Spanish Conquistadores, Pueblo Indians and later the Mexicans and Anglos. It's relative geographic isolation in the US preserved it's culture for a few hundred years making this city so unique in our country. The diversified people who are so wonderful and warm, surrounding beautiful landscapes, delicious food, rich cultural background and historical accounting are outlined in this prized book like no other I've read on this area. Her detail on this fascinating high elevation city is incredible like a walk through a museum of Santa Fe history. Her book could be a textbook for same. Cannot recommend enough whether you are among the special group of us who love this area or thinking of visiting or love knowing our profound roots as a country. It will give you a rich perspective to truly enjoy this city and New Mexico and it's now 400 yrs of celebrated life.
