A must buy.
I don't know why didn't buy this book before. It is a wonderful book with very precise instructions for any upcoming animators. Even if you are a couple years experienced, you can still learn few things from this book. The bind was alittle damaged when i reviewed but the content made up for it.

Book had stains on it.
Plz read full review.Received book in bad condition it had stians on the pages and also on the outside and was very dusty too.Overall book was in accepyable condition but not as a NEW book should look like. And for the books content i think every animator should read this book at least once. Also a good book for begineers who are looking into animation. For me contentent of book is more important than the condition of a book. So its kind of ok with the service provided from amazon.

Great book.
The book more like works like a crash course on many of the aspects of timing, like how weight affects the movement and timing and most of the things on how to get the timing right for an animation to get a sense of reality.

Great Book for Animation
This is a classic textbook. If there are a few textbooks that any animator will immensely benefit from, this would be in the top 5 along with Animator's Survival Kit, Disney''s Illusion of Life, Preston Blair's Cartoon Animation, Animation from Script to Screen. A must buy for animators, especially in the times of 3D animations these principles apply more than ever.

Can't Rate It Highly Enough
Simply written...No cringing humorous references (like the '.. For Dummies' books)...Brilliant diagrams...Excellent price!Looking around Waterstones I could have chosen from all manner of different books, but on the strength of the positive reviews settled for this. Best decision I could have made - I'm brand new to the world of Animation, but this un-biased and straightforward account from one of the worlds best animators just comes up trumps when the closest I've come to an "animation" is a flip book when I was 8 years old. Despite being originally written in the 1980's, it reads just as decisive today, with a new foreword introduction by Pixars big cheese, John Lasseter (having possibly the luckiest job in the world, living around toys). An important aspect that Lasseter points out is that this book is just as applicable now as it was all those years ago, because even with the computer technology available, only the individual can decide how an object has a sense of presence and timing. Therefore, this book is suitable for both computer and artwork animators. Each area of animation is separated into small 'chapters', with incredible reference to how you should cope with weight, size and matter. I now look at objects in a completely different way; weighing up the possibilities of the objects aesthetics, personality, and relation to resistance. Not only this, but the book offers calculations for timing the amount of frames needed per second for the velocity of moving objects. A vital set of figures! What's also become obvious is that I now appreciate more than ever the enormous lengths and hardmanship that Disney animators went through to make some of their finest films. I really can't recommend this book highly enough. On the outside, it looks quite slim and modest, but far exceeds any other animation book out there. Buy it!

Love it !
Nothing new, first published in 1981 but, you can never have too much of the basics and fundamental principles that this slim volume delivers. If you are interested in animation or want to be, a very good book to read and in due course, re-read to remind yourself of what it is all about.

Okay to have at hand but not great to learn
It's an okay book to learn some principles. It covers the most important topics but isn't very comprehensive in their explanations. It's nice to have at hand for some knowledge review, but you'll need to complement your studies with something more robust, like the Animator's Survival Kit from Richard Williams
