The Terminal Man

A read to kill spare time....that's all....nothing more nothing less..
Crichton is a master of plots, which twist, turn and interwine to surprise readers continuously, what I felt absolutely missing in this book. It is filled with technical details of modern day medicine and surgical procedures, which many might feel a little boring. Also, since there is no element of surprise, the ending is somewhat predictable. The story starts off with the diagnosis of a disease and continues nagging with its surgery and probable cure. When you are through about two-thirds of the story, things get a little pacy and you expect the familiar spark from Crichton. But unfortunately that doesn't come and the story ends abruptly. Its just not fair by Crichton standards.

Good, Engaging read.
Will technological singularity be a reality one day? Will machines eventually surpass the combined human intelligence of mankind? With our ability to create program and systems that can perform better than what they were programmed to be, this doesn't seem to be a far fetched idea.Perturbed by this unison, a person loses his mental balance and undergoes a treatment - only to realize that he's going to be controlled by such a machine implanted in his brain. An amazing thriller that shows quite a realistic aspect of how man and machines fuse.

One of his best works. On a personal note
Superb thriller by Micheal Crichton. One of his best works. On a personal note, Crichton is the best sci-fi author I have ever read and will probably ever read.

Good Stuff
It's quite hard to rate with Michael Crichton, Sometimes he grabs you and you're well and truly hooked then other times it's quite hard to engage with the book, I guess that's down to timing and subject,Etc I've given this book 'The Terminal Man' 3* as it is a good read and I'd recommend it, It's informative, Well researched with great imagination (i think that these were the keys to Crichton's success) and it was a bargain, But I've read a lot better written by him, Then again I've read a lot worse! Hence the middle of the road 3*, As I said I'd recommend it plus of course there's a few 'Oh I didn't See That Coming' moments and 'I Thought That It Was Going To Be So & So' or 'Such & Such') Again it's a good read.

Very easy to read, not one of the best Crichton books ever
Being an enormous Crichton fan, I enjoyed the book, although it does not match up to other Crichton books. Having recently read Timeline and Airframe, I found The Terminal Man to be a touch too simplistic even though it seems to deal with a very complex subject.Crichton is a master of research and analysis, but this book does not do him a lot of credit in that department.Read it, but read his other books first.
