Gather: A Foraging Journal

Simple, Pretty, Thorough
This pretty journal was purchased to record mushroom sightings. The pages within are ivory paper with a medium brown/sepia type print. There are tons of botanical sketches along the bottom border or right hand corner of many pages that serve to really make the book feel beautiful and slightly old-fashioned.The book begins with an index for the purchaser to fill out as they make new entries. Next comes a series of pages for the four seasons so you can record what is in season during these times. Then two pages are devoted to each month so you can pencil in findings and plans. After the calendar is the best part which is the foraging journal. There are two pages allotted for each entry. At the top of the first page is a section to record the plant, date found, location, and quantity. In the center of the page is a blank area for sketching (or to add a photo!). At the bottom of this page is a section to make notes about the harvest. On the second page is the section for what you created with your harvest. It would be easy to glue in a photo or pencil in a recipe. This part was thoughtfully designed. The journal ends with a small section for sketching maps to plants you found particularly significant. You could probably glue in a map from an outside source if it were appropriately sized. The book is hardback and it seems quite study. A small bit of color has flaked off along the spine from my frequent usage. There is a satin bookmark sewn in to make your place in the journal as well as an attached elastic band to hold the book closed. It is simple but thorough enough for me to make detailed notes about all the mushroom I find, and it is pretty enough to hold onto as a keepsake after I fill it. If you're the creative type and want room for your own sketches and photos along with your notes, this is a good purchase. Recommend.

A must for every Gardner!
Love this journal I used it this year for a super large garden. I have kept track of planting dates and when things first start to come up plus when they start to bloom it will be wonderful next year to look back at what worked and what didn't. There is plenty of room for a drawing of my garden layout! the notes section is great for writing incidentals I can even keep seed packets in the journal because of the ability to strap every thing in. so happy got this

Soothes my anxious, foraging heart
The Forage Journal has 255 pages and is partially lined. The first few pages are for an index of the plants you found, seasons pages for common plants nearby; then many, many pages for your own plant documentation, and at the end of the book there is a place to draw maps! Both are hardcovers, have the titles printed on the spines, have elastic closures on the side, and are the "classic book size".These were created by a wonderful author&illustrator named Maggie Enterrios. Maggie has also published other books, adult coloring page books, and does YouTube tutorials of nature illustrations. After I ordered these here, actually found out these beauties are printed at timberpress(dot)coM. (I'm told not as much of the profit goes towards the creator when we order from a third party such as Amazon).

Will buy again!
Perfect! Everything I would want in a foraging journal. The cover is gorgeous and the pages are a great texture. Love the “what I created with this harvest” page :) I already ordered another because I know this is exactly what I will need :)
