Neuroanatomy

Hands down, THE best neuroanatomy (and clinical neurology) book there is!
I've read (or attempted to read) many neuroanatomy books. I've tried pocket guides, ridiculously simple books, terribly boring textbooks, etc. NONE come close to this book. You are introduced to a specific section of anatomy with EXCELLENT illustrations and explanations, and then immediately following, you are given a series of clinical cases. The cases are quite simply, stunning. Patient presentation, what clues from history and physical are IMPORTANT, and then correct diagnosis with treatment. Each case is packed with CLINICAL INFORMATION and CT's/MRI's for your review.I loved the section on weakness. Illustrated and explained like I've never seen before. How to narrow down where the lesion can be found, why some areas are ruled out, common causes for the lesion, and a CLEAR ILLUSTRATION reinforcing the text. Brilliant. This is easily the best neuroanatomy text and more than that, it's the best introduction to clinical NEUROLOGY.If you are taking neuroanatomy, use this instead of your stupid text. Your peers will be amazed at your grasp of the info they are struggling with. If you are an intern before neuro residency, read this during your intern year. If you are a neuro resident, use this for reinforcing the underlying anatomy for the path you've seen during the day.Thank you for writing this text. My only regret is that I found it after wasting so much time with other books!

Excellent Review of Neuroanatomy
For doctors looking to improve their clinical skills in neurology, this is the book. Infact, this is the book that I wish I had in medical school. I like the clinical orientation. The neuro exam is related to anatomic structures multiple times, from different angles. For instance, when reviewing neuroanatomy, the anatomy is presented and then a comment about resulting deficits from damage to this area and a brief comment on the aproach to testing. Then during the neuro exam the test is illucidated and comments refer back to anatomic structures and deficits. During clinical exams you get to refine and practice what you have learned elsewhere. In the world of MRI and CT I have enjoyed relating what I learn in each section to my patients. While certainly not necessary to fulfill my job, I feel more confident as we move into the age of stroke tPA and embolectomy that I will be ready when one of my patients suffers a bleed while in house.

Clinical Neuroanatomy at its best
I can only echo the high praise already offered by the two previous reviewers on this web site. This is not only one of the finest if not the finest neuroanatomy teaching text that I have ever read, it is one of the finest summaries of general clinical neuroscience conceptual material I've ever read, with an obvious heavy emphasis on functional neuroanatomy. Although there are a few nits that I could pick about a few details, the level of excellence is uniform, the depth of coverage is just perfect for the advanced student, and the breadth of coverage is exceptional. The basic methodology for presenting material consists of a smoothly integrated presentation of graphical plates (outlining basic structures), clinical case materials including results of a very thorough neuro exam, and structural neuroimaging. Very clear and lucid presentations of cases. Very highly recommended.I basically cannot say enough good things about this text. It is the current benchmark in this field.

You wont regret buying it!!!
I don't have alot of time and get bored very easily. I thought I had a strong understanding before I picked up a copy of this book but learned several new things in the first few pages alone. The content delivery is real world applicable and that is invaluable in order to understand the material. Excellent study tool if not your course textbook.

A must for any clinician
This was an "optional" textbook for my Neuroanatomy class in PA school. I found that I read it thoroughly and it helped me understand the concepts I was not quite getting in the class lectures. The images and diagrams are suberb. The most valuable asset of this book are the clinical case presentations. Very thorough, complete with MRI & CT imaging, signs/symptoms Pt presentation, DDx, and options for treatment.I will hold on to this book and refer to it often in my clinical years. Fantastic! A must have.

Dynamic
I've tried several neuroanatomy books but although I started them eagerly I got tired and bored very soon no matter how well written they were. I can't say whether this book is perfect, I saw from other reviews some had problems with the index, some found it too lengthy, maybe they're right, but this is the only book which really kept my interest alive and seemed fun to read, waking me up and putting my mind into motion. For me this is the best compliment for a book of this kind despite any potential flaw.

Great case studies for your office bookshelf
This book was not even required for my Neuro class, but the professor shared many stories from it with the class and suggested looking into it. I looked over his copy and decided I had to have it to add to my bookshelf as a soon-to-be Speech Language Pathologist. It's written like an actual person is talking to you, unlike many cold/clinical textbooks I have had.

Mandatory book for neuroanatomy.
Still one of THE best neuroanatomy books on the market. I've used mine many, many years and am still learning things. Great reference.

Probably the best text to learn. In a league of Robbins pathology.
Only complaint is no online support. In any book digital support is a must in this times. Binding has been proven great after all these years.Otherwise it is an absolute joy to read.

the best neuroanatomy text you can buy
This is actually at least four books in one: neuronanatomy core text, complete neurological examination, neuroradiological atlas with pathologic images and an introductory text to neurology and neurosurgery. With 100 brilliant clinical cases you begin to understand functional neuroanatomy and the relevance of learning a seemingly overwhelming anatomical detail. With a chapter on the development of the nervous system and a little more of histology it would be not to match.
