Great! Wide and deep in its coverage of the subject
This book is superb. Split into 2 sections, the first half for novices (and piston helicopters), the second for experienced hands (and turbine helicopters). It covers a wide spread of subjects, initially at a fairly easy to read level, before expanding on this in the second section. I would say it's written for pilots not engineers and you'll soon be on your way to understanding how improbable helicopters are. The book is printed by Amazon and Shawn Coyle is a test pilot who now works for the same flight safety company as the legendary Ray Prouty (who's books are also printed by Amazon (see the inside cover when you get it if you don't believe me!). I have learnt a great deal about helicopters types I have yet to fly (I have over 2000 hrs multi engine turbine so far, but no piston). If you like Prouty's style, you'll love this. If you get this and Prouty's two volumes you'll have the ultimate collection

Would recommend!
Amazing book, great content and there’s a lot even an experienced pilot can learn from in this book!

Great content, mediocre publishing quality.
Great content, no problems there at all. But just a note to say that the quality of publishing is quite poor: the diagrams are small, blurry, hard to read, in many cases have overlapping text etc, and the typesetting and printing quality is not particularly good. This is clearly an amateur publication, a labour of love put together by someone who is an expert in the field but not a publisher, with little editorial input. Having said that, the content itself is great. Just don't expect text-book like publication quality.

Pretty good introduction to helicopter fundamentals and some more advanced concepts. Clear and structured, complete with the odd dash of humour this book takes you from zero domain knowledge to a fair understanding of the subject in general. Personally I would have liked more discussion of avionics components with perhaps generic examples, and how they are used in practice, but that wasn't the focus. I have however (perhaps unfairly) knocked a star for the complete omission of that area.

A must have for any pilot
Very thorough and easy to follow. As a student in flight school right now, this feels like a must have.

Understandin heli technology made comprehensive
As an engineer you get confronted by loads of books with more loads of math formulas on even more loads of formulas. This book instead explains the technology. Solid, knowledgeable and with practitioners foundation without getting fuzzy with physics. A must read before starting an engineering carreer.
