The Demonologist: The Extraordinary Career of Ed and Lorraine Warren - The True Accounts of the Paranormal Investigators Featured in the film 'The Conjuring'

Fiction or not this book is a great read.
I`m very impressed by the Warrens, I enjoyed this book very much, and I think the debate whether this is a work of fiction vs non-fiction is beyond the point, because it falls in the category of the religious-a very subjective area in and by itself-meaning it can`t be proven scientifically-and is base on belief. People need to make up their own mind whether this is real or not and whatever the outcome is, it`ll be ok.The book begins by relating the Amityville story(not in-dept though), mentioning the three o`clock hour-LOLs I hated when I wake up at the time in the middle of the night- and giving a brief account of the unfortunate family(Lutz) that was hunted in their recently bought home in 1975-76. That`s it for the Amityville, do not expect to find more here, nor will you find any information here regarding the new movie "The Conjuring" that story is vaguely told in another book "House of Darkness House of Light" by Andrea Perron herself a victim/experiencer of the saga-Hollywood stretched the movie " The Conjuring" way too much-.That being said, this is a great book, a good read though listed with a disclaimer that is a fictional book, nothing can`t be further from the truth-in a subjective way since its a matter of belief not science-. even though Ed Warren would disagree with my statement adding that this phenomena it`s a matter of evidence. In essence what I take from this book is that God exist, and so other realms and realities unexplainable in conventional terms do indeed exist too, but never forget regardless of your particular creed that God is always in control. The Warren affirm through their own experiences that haunted houses exist; the supernatural exist; the inhuman demonic spirits exist; and that ghost exist, also that these entities need physical energy to manifest either from the person own aura, or from the atmosphere or the electrical grid. And unlike ghosts, inhuman entities feed on fear and horror because they are entities that never walked the Earth-they are the Fallen Angels-they love to dwell in places where negative energy flows such as where illegal drug deals, prostitution, murdered, quarrels, fights, cheating or for that matter witchcraft have taken place, that`s an invitation for those entities to come into anyone`s life. Why is there too much supernatural activity going on to day?, the evil has roamed the earth forever, nothing new there but In ancient time the demonic knowledge was kept by very few wicked people, now anyone looking for extraordinary knowledge can find it easily and available on the Internet or mostly any book store has a New Age section. Also as more people is alienated from organize religion seeking elsewhere for alternatives to life, doors are left wide open for infestation to come about by people owns free will, what Lorraine Warren calls "The Adam and Eve 's trip all over again" because man long ago was warned about evil and was given a choice whether to exercise resistant to its influences. The creator cannot make that call for us, that's the heart of the matter. This book is a warning to all of us not to mess around with the negative entities, by being bi-curious about the occult, and bringing about a possible infestation, oppression, or possession into someone`s life, Ed said, it is like an accident waiting to happen either by the law of invitation or the law of attraction. In the words of Ed Warren "Good begets good, and bad begets worse" so being positive is our best bet against evil, putting the forces of the cosmos in our favor building a good life for ourselves and those around us.As much as I enjoyed reading this book, truth to be told, I highly doubt that most people will ever encounter similar events as the one`s unfolded in this excellent book, people in general are good, decent and hard working and for the most part hold beliefs in some sort of higher power-either through personal believe in Jesus, The Virgin Mary, Saints, Angels, or through good prophets such as Budha, muhammad, or Moses, etc, but there`s no doubt all of us will one day encounter the one to four percent(1 in 25) of demons walking among us, in our Jobs, churches, families and communities. I`m talking about the beings that lacking a total conscience, have no empathy and feel no remorse The Psychopaths-Sociopaths, beware because they will leave you broken spiritually, financially, & emotionally. Those demons are the ones we need to protect against the most. And take the advice of the Warrens seriously as well, remember emotions at home can trigger the phenomena describe in this book, and a happy home is the best defense. Finally, I deeply believe that The Creator allows this phenomena to happened as part of his divine-master plan as a kind of catalyst for the evolution of the human consciousness, and spiritual growth, specially when we straight away from the right path, and it's goes hand and hand with the phenomena of alien abduction, which is almost ALWAYS part of deamonic activity which is everything associated with the supernatural, the evil and good alike. Andrea Perron declared that demons, spirits and UFOs are intermingled in a interview but no mention was made neither on this book or Andrea's book.I recommend this book, also see "The Rite" by Matt Baglio base on Father Garry Thomas and I also recommend books on psychopathy such as Ph.D George K Simon "In Sheep`s clothing" & Ph.D Robert D Hare "Without a conscience" or Jon Ronson "Psychopath Test"

A MUST HAVE/READ FOR ANYONE INVOLVED IN THE PARANORMAL!!
I've been involved with many aspects of the Paranormal field for over 20 yrs. Ive read many, many books pertaining to hauntings, poltergeist, inhuman & human spirits, Possesion , oppression , attachments, etc, etc.. I am very familiar with the Warrens as most in this field are. They, along with MAYBE a handful of other people are/were true assets and have helped & changed many lives with their work. This book goes into more detail than any I've read of the Warrens true work. Ed was a remarkable man, who without regard for his own safety or sanity, helped & saved many countless families and people. If you are just a person who likes a " scary" book, well my friend, this may give you more than you bargained for! Sometimes " ignorance is bliss", yet just because you either don't " know" about what is out there, or just choose not to believe in it- does NOT make you safe from it. This stuff, evil or not , doesn't discriminate. Some ppl need to see or experience this stuff for themselves to " believe" it exists , yet when the DO, most wish the NEVER had. This book is not a lite read for a quick scare. It's hardcore truth about actual events that took place. Sure there are many NON believers, that doesn't make this stuff any less REAL or TERRIFYING when you stop to think that normal, everyday people who never thought of ghosts, demons, or never dabbled in an occult practice in their lives, have had their world torn apart by forces no one yet full understands. If you want to know REAL situations, REAL possessions , hauntings, beyond what is shown on elaborated TV, or 1/2 truth shows, then THIS IS YOUR BOOK. The Warrens are 2 of the most knowledgeable people ever to be in this field, the loss of Ed Warren was not just of a great man, husband, father, uncle, But of a true warrior against any and all evil, malicious, human or demonic forces. Lorraine still at her older age, does whatever she can, whenever she is needed to help those afflicted by these forces. The cases in this book will amaze you and frighten you. Not like a horror movie, but more of a wake up call that these forces are REAL & DO Exsist . Though it can be scary, it can also help you to understand these things. The book can be a helpful tool & is to me. The more you know and understand about these things, the better prepared to handle, or recognize them , the better off you are. Not that reading this book will " protect" you, but should the occasion ever arise that YOU, a Friend, loved one, Home, buisness etc is ever under attack or just has activity, atleast your more able to notice & understand what is happening and seek out the proper help sooner than later. This book is an eye opener, it takes you into situations very few have every heard of much less experienced! You'll realize that these things happen way more than you ever thought. These cases are some of the worst and when something like this happens to a person or family, they DON'T go around telling their neighbors, co workers, or even friends, for fear of being judged and ridiculed . They went through horrific experiences and most never want to speak of it again. Through this book we get to glimps into these horrid attacks, hauntings, possessions and experiences, all from the " safety" of our cozy homes. It's an excellent book, all true, not " fluffed" , it doesn't need to be... Put down the Fictional horror book, and read THIS, garaunteed to raise the hairs on the back of your neck and make you sleep with the lights on. And the worst( or best) part of it is, IT'S ALL TRUE ...... A must have book for anyone in the Paranormal field, or for anyone wanted to know more about these situations and want the TRUTH!Ps. Another great man John Zaffis ( Haunted Collector tv series) is the nephew of the late Ed Warren and learn from his Uncle! He also has a great book which I've read and loved. He is one of the few great ppl we have today in this field.Get this book, it took me years due to sold out & or out of print! It's back , for a REASON!! Jenn~

MUST BUY!
General:Hands down, this is one of my favourite books of all time (and trust me I’ve amassed a decent sized collection). I’ve re-read it countless times and have it in all it’s formats: paperback, kindle, audio book - you name I got it.Written by Gerard Brittle, it’s the first book on the Warrens. It’s written in a clear and easy way, grammar is good and overal layout is clear (in all its formats). If your a fan of the paranormal then this is a must buy. It does cover neutral aspects of ghosts, but it’s main angle is focusing on the negative sides of it. The Warrens are unashamedly catholics, even though they made it clear that were willing to work with people from any faith, and therefore this book is heavily pro Christian/Catholic. If this is a worldview your extremely opposed to, then to be honest you might struggle with this book. The book doesn’t shove it down the readers throat, no covert conversion tactics here, but they don’t shy away from their believes. (I’m not a catholic btw). There are extremely fascinating case studies in here (I can’t believe this exists and the conjuring universe producers still insist on giving us countless Annabelle movies) and there are numerous incredibly useful things to learn about in the book. Also, it’s got a decent scare factor. It’s not as terrifying as some seem to say, you will be able to sleep at night, but if you take this with an open mind there is some pretty unsettling stuff out there in the world potentiallyPros:1) well written, good quality and content.2) very informative and educational.3) overall entertaining, and miles better then most horror movies.Cons:1) struggling to think of any - but I am very bias as it’s one of my favourite books.2) doesn’t offer a balanced view on the paranormal. It’s a full out supporter of its existence. (Although the Warrens approach was not to automatically believe that ghosts and demons are waiting around every corner).3) leans heavily on the negative aspects of the paranormal and occult.

Actually scared me
I am an avid reader of horror novels and never get scared. Actually I am the only one of my friends who can read/watch horror alone and not be bothered. Saying that I don't even believe in the supernatural and this scared me. I am 34 and reading this brought back the teenaged belief in ghouls. It is written convincingly. After reading this I had to read a biography, nice and safe, to cleanse my palate. I would worry about the effect reading this could have on an impressionable teen (as it is usually teenaged girls who experience these issues) but it is very interesting.

Couldn't put this book down!
I am a massive fan of Ed & Lorraine Warren and a friend recommended I read this book. I am so glad I did. I literally could not put it down. It felt as though Ed & Lorraine were speaking directly to me. I have to admit in parts, I did find myself getting quite scared when reading details of Amityville, Annabelle, different possessions and haunting that they had been involved in. Reading The Demonologist explained alot of things that I wasn't sure about. For example, the difference between a human and inhuman haunting, how different faiths deal with exorcism and the real truths behind The Ouiji Boards. I recommend reading this book, especially if you are fans of Ed & Lorraine Warren. Check out their official Utube Channel too. You will definitely have a different outlook on how you view things supernatural after reading this book!

Interesting and disappointing
Thought by some to be experts on demonology and exorcism, Ed and Lorraine Warren have many thousands of investigations to their credit. With several movies (such as The Conjuring) based on the Warrens’ experiences, this should be a fascinating book.However.It’s certainly true to say there are some chilling stories in The Demonologist, but how scary they are kind of depends on your point of view. What is truly scary is Gerald Brittle’s slapdash prose and his unbelievable lack of academic awareness. This book should be packed with accurate references stating the origin of the various accounts related, how they were recorded and who transcribed them. Some of the interviews with Ed Warren are very interesting and are obviously transcribed from conversations with the author. However, many of the tales are related as if the author simply made them up—did he talk to the participants himself? Was he given access to written or taped accounts? Were they passed on second-hand by Ed Warren?Sceptics such as Perry DeAngelis point the finger at the lack of evidence provided by the Warrens. Given the so-called thousands of photographs taken by Ed Warren during his investigations, those depicted in the book are pretty disappointing. The ones supposedly showing levitating objects, could be faked by a ten-year-old. It seems ridiculous that after fifty years of ghost-hunting, the Warrens don’t have any believable evidence. To be fair, for those of a nervous disposition, this isn’t a book to read late at night, but if you’re looking for evidence of ghosts, demons and other anti-Christ-like monsters, look elsewhere.

Side note if you are interested in reading some of Ed and Lorraine's books written by themselves i would recommend reading them
If you are interested in the supernatural or want a greater understanding of demonology then look no further , after you have read this book you need go no further. This book touches on the back stories of most of their major and most well known cases that have hit cinema screens such as "The Annabelle Doll","The Ammityville Horror" "The Haunting in Connecticut" and "The Conjuring". This text is not by the Warrens themselves and that did startle me at first as i wanted a first hand account however this text includes interviews from the warrens and stories including some photographs etc. Side note if you are interested in reading some of Ed and Lorraine's books written by themselves i would recommend reading them first as there may be some spoilers in this book , i would recommend "The Haunted" and "In a dark place" if you wish to do so.
