An Absolute Must-Have
Due to the relatively high price tag for what ultimately is just a chicken coop door, I mulled over making this purchase for a while and I am extremely happy in the end that I did.If you own chickens, you know the feeling of being chained to your chicken coop - having to wake up early to let them out or rushing home by a certain time to lock them up. It can be a major inconvenience. This inconvenience is further magnified in the winter at least for me, living in the northeast. Having to trek through the snow and below freezing temperatures twice a day is a nightmare. What drew me to this product aside from the automatic open/close function was the simplicity of the design. Prior to installing ChickenGuard, my coop had a pull-down door that acted as a ramp when opened. During the winter months mud, straw and chicken poop would get packed in the door hinge, around the jam and in various crevices between the door and coop. Once wet, it would freeze making it difficult to open and close the door. Almost every day we were out there with hot water, a hammer and a screw driver chipping away the frozen debris in order to open or close the door. With the ChickenGuard, this problem is solved! The simple design has so far prevented the build up of debris and works flawlessly. It seems there is nowhere for significant build-up to accumulate and freeze. The installation was very simple, I am by no means handy and it took me about 20 minutes. I did have to spend some additional time installing plywood above the ChickenGuard in order to close up the opening a bit as this chicken door is much smaller that the standard door opening on my coop. It really wasn't a big deal though, I measured the opening and purchased a small section of pre-cut plywood at Home Depot and simply screwed it in from the inside of the coop.I programmed the unit to open at sunrise and close at sunset using the unit's light sensor. I chose to use the sensor option rather than the timer because my chickens seem to automatically go into the coop once it gets dark anyway. The first couple of nights we had a chicken or two get locked out, so I would highly suggest checking on your flock each night until they become acclimated with the new setup. We simply pushed the open button, let the stragglers in and pressed the close button. After a couple of instances it hasn't happened again, they seem to have learned the drill pretty quickly. We still check on them anyway. After having this for around a month, I would highly recommend this product. It is a complete game changer and an absolute must-have not only for the winter, but for breaking yourself from the chains of your chicken coop.

Outstanding customer support
Bought this over 2 years ago. Have loved the product. Had an issue a few months back with the door due to technical issue and was disappointed to discover the door was not covered under the warrenty but they did offer a discount on a replacement. Then just recently the automatic door would not work. It just stopped opening. It would let me manually open and walk through the steps but come morning —nothing. I thought maybe cheap batteries so I changed them-nothing. I was worried it was the mechanism but it let me push the button and open it close so obviously it worked. Finally called the company today and the lady was so patient and within literal minutes solved the problem and walked me through solving it! I needed to actually recalibrate the door not just reset and reprogram. Somehow I was missing that step when I added new batteries and going through the set up! Now the door is working good as new and saved me $200!Thank you for your time and patience today.

Not working again.
I installed this opener and door today and set the date and time (Sunday and it was 14:01). I set it for timer and set the days and times (07:00 to open and 21:00 to close). I stood out there and at 21:00 the door did not close, I had to manually close it. I rechecked the settings and it is set for timer and the day and time was correct. I will have to check it out more tomorrow and see if there is something I missed, I don't think I did, but anything is possible. I will only be giving this a one star rating at this time and will update it after I troubleshoot it further.Update: I went out to check on my chickens and I noticed thereally was a motor power error on the console. I tried to recalibrate it, but it did not work. I changed the batteries and plugged the console back in and I got a bunch of jibberish on the screen (a bunch or weird symbols and letters). It beeped once, the red light came on, and normal words showe'd back up. It didn't look right still, I tried to recalibrate the door, but it did nothing. I tried to set the date and time but it would not let me set the day. Tried to set open/close dates and times, but that option was not provided. I ordered this product exactly 2 months ago, it took about a week to get here. I got it working after the first couple days when it was installed and the only other problem I've had recently was the door started going up and down slowly. I lubed the track and that seemed to help. Now it does nothing. For something that costs over $200 and is extremely basic, this product is not worth it. I just emailed the company, I heard their customer service is not good. We will see.

No issues in cold weather.
Works great and timer easy to adjust, batteries lasted about 8 months with no issues in Ontario Canadian winter. Ordering another for the run door so I can control when they free range. We did insulate the run with some old windows (to give light plus a view) and house wrap over the screened run that will be fully removed mid May and did install a heater on the run roof that was used on and off during really cold spells.

Works Great, Highly Recommended
Bought this product for my son and daughter-in-law chicken coop. Very easy to install and it works perfectly. With the auto opening and closing (by timer) they can sleep in on the weekends or be away late in the day or for a day or two. I would highly recommend this product.

Excellent quality product.
The product is surprisingly well made and sturdy. It was easy to set up and works well with the light sensor. It might be a bit expensive but I can see from the quality that it should last a long time. I am very happy with my purchase.
