SSN-593 Thresher U.S. Submarine MM350-005

This is a nice little kit of the Thresher. It doesn't have the detail of a Dragon kit, but it will make a nice model for your 1/350 ship/sub collection. The kit comes with decals for any sub in this class. The only thing missing is the bulge for the towed array sonar (TASS) that was retrofitted later in the subs' lives. (The Thresher sank 15 or so years before TASS was installed.) I have heard the decals can be brittle, so I am going to put a coat of Microscale Liquid Decal Film over them before using the decals. This kit is a 'limited run' kit and doesn't have tabs & slots to aid alignment, so be sure you have pieces properly aligned before the glue dries. Finally, be patient! The manufacturer is in Ukraine, so it takes a while to arrive unless there is a local seller that has it.

Lots of flash and no locator pins. Cheap plastic, too. Not worth the price. I’m returning it.

A good kit if you’re looking for a Permit Class submarine in 1:350 scale. Assembly is a little challenging. Some parts need a little modding to fit right, but for me, that’s part of the fun. Nothing too bad, just a bit of filing and putty here and there. The details are good and it comes with some additional photo-etched parts.

Not what was expected nor packaged the way it is shown or described. Very disappointed in purchasing this as a gift.
