What a beautiful book! Two writers reaching out, touching each other, creating a whole world between them. Piercing and evocative.

Very intersting format

I am still reading in this but loving it. I like where Gary Snyder is going in his evolution. I confess to being a bit of a fanatic about Gary Snyder even since I read The Dharma Bums (Jack Kerouac) and followed up to learn about Japhy Ryder was. That was a long time ago and I am still a student of Snyder. This just adds to it all

Wonderful portrayal of an unfolding friendship/mentorship spanning many years. The depth and wisdom of the dialogue were spellbinding.I felt privileged to have "overheard" these conversations, which have spawned much appreciation and wish to read more of Gary Snyder's works. His views speak to my soul and sense of right relationship.

I'm a huge Gary Snyder fan but this collection of correspondence between Snyder and a sycophantic admirer is best avoided. It's hero worship commercialized.

As any other finely cut diamond, Snyder's life has many gleaming facets. His interviews over a span of time are very revealing of the gift his writing and teaching has brought us Julia Martin's questions to him allow us to look deeper into his heart and spirit than ever before. I'm grateful for their mutual endeavor!

A great book documenting the friendship between two very interesting people. Well worth a read if you like Gary Snyder.
