This is one of my favorite movies. I purchased this for $4.99 which is an amazing deal.

Awesome Movie

Lo and behold, just when you thought Hollywood couldn't give us a great movie without soft p***, nudity, cheap sex scenes, language, blasphemy, and other filth, I run across this. The plot, script writing, acting, music, even the costumes are just superb. This is the type of movie that you could only get sick of after watching 60 times. This, THIS is how to get a movie right, Hollywood.

I did a fair bit of homework before buying this 2-disc Blu-ray set with a January 1, 2013 release date. (Yes, Amazon's description of the set is wrong - an unfortunately common problem!) The original release of Gladiator on Blu-ray was a noise-reduction, edge-enhancement mess that has since been replaced by a much better, more film-like remaster. But how to know which print you have received? This is tricky. Some investigations in 2010 and 2011 revealed that if the back of the Blu-ray case says "2-disc set" over the Paramount logo, or if the UPC sticker is not yellow, or if the color of the printed side of the discs themselves is light grey, your Blu-ray print might be the bad one. However, time has shown that these indicators are not reliable. What about this new release? The copy I received today has a *white* UPC sticker on the back that says "Distributed by Warner Home Video" and features the WB logo. (The sole reason for the 2013 re-release, as far as I can tell, is that WB has taken over distribution of this and many other titles from Paramount.) The case features the "2-disc set" label and a 2010 copyright date. BUT THIS IS INDEED THE NEWER REMASTER! The principal giveaway is that the unprinted side of Disc 1 features a code along the inner ring which ends with "B1R2." But the only sure test is to play the movie. From the start, it has a film-like appearance that is not excessively scrubbed of grain and minor noise, but is nevertheless polished and color-corrected. It looks and sounds fantastic to me. I saw no noticeable flaws during the opening battle sequence that would suggest to me that this is the wrong print of the movie. (Hooray!) What small flaws I did notice seem to be inherent to the film and should stay as they are. I hesitated to replace my 2-disc DVD copy of this movie. I'm very glad to have this new release. It is the high-quality Sapphire Series Blu-ray release with both the theatrical and extended cuts of the film, commentary by Scott and Crowe, a vast collection of featurettes, deleted scenes, images, and more. Language tracks: English 5.1 DTS-HD, French 5.1 DD, Spanish 5.1 DD; subtitles in English, English SDH, French, Spanish, and Korean.

Excellent movie!!

Good movie, good acting and lots of action. On this it rates 4 stars. Some action scenes were indeed spectacular in achieving. Entertaining and nice follow-up to the first one.

Película recibida en perfecto estado

La película no puede reproducirse en ningún lector bluray comprado en España. Tampoco en un ordenador (con lector bluray) con programas como CyberLink PowerDVD 13 o ArcSoft TotalMedia Theatre. Vamos que no se puede ver la película por mucho que lleve el idioma en español. Es un fallo grave en la ficha de descripción del producto de la web de Amazon, ya que está clasificado como "región libre" pero no es así. Aparece una pantalla azul y en inglés dice que no se puede reproducir en esta región. He comprado muchos bluray de región Reino Unido y este es el primero que da problemas. Creía que lo de la región iba en función a los continentes, por lo tanto debería funcionar en España y no. Aparte que se supone que es Región Libre. Ahora estoy pendiente de la reclamación y que me devuelvan el dinero ya que es como si tuviera un estuche vacío. Veremos para qué me sirve. De momento me he gastado 15€ para nada. Para colmo, aunque esté en la web de Amazon, es una tienda externa de Amazon, así que no sé como va a responder y si será seria. Tuve la mala suerte que la remasterización del bluray de Alemania estaba agotada así que cogí este pensando que sería lo mismo. ¡ERROR!

Il film è molto bello, pieno di effetti speciali e sonori e con molti costumi dell’epoca. Però il film non racconta i fatti veramente accaduti nel passato. Per esempio, non ci sono le prove che Commodo abbia ucciso il padre Marco Aurelio, che invece, è morto di peste mentre conquistava Vindobona, attuale Vienna. È invece vero che Comodo non si rivolgesse mai al Senato, che doveva rappresentare il popolo, per chiedere consigli, ma si rivolgeva al popolo stesso. È anche vero che Commodo scese personalmente nell’arena contro dei gladiatori, ma le battaglie erano manipolate a suo favore. È vero inoltre che sua sorella Lucilla complottò contro di lui e che Commodo fu sconfitto da un gladiatore. Il film mi è piaciuto tanto: la storia è strutturata bene e gli effetti speciali sono stupendi. E forse è anche per questi motivi che ha vinto ben cinque premi Oscar. E anche se ci sono scene di guerra e sangue, il film lo consiglio a tutti, anche perché oltre a essere un documento storico, è anche un film d’amore, di rabbia e di complotti. Il più grande lavoro di Ridley Scott è destinato a diventare uno dei più importanti film della storia del cinema. E se si pensa che il regista sia un vero esperto nei film fantascientifici, sorprende il fatto che abbia saputo affrontare un progetto così storico, ambizioso e maestoso come quello de "Il Gladiatore". Raccontando la storia del generale Massimo Decimo Meridio, che diventerà il più grande gladiatore di tutta Roma, Scott si avvale non solo di un profondo studio storico completo quanto archeologico, ma anche di un cast tecnico preparatissimo e di livelli irraggiungibili: dagli interpreti alle musiche. Ci troviamo di fronte ad una grande opera che suggerisce emozioni, un'opera capace di raccontare in modo impeccabile ed eccellente una storia importante e complessa come quella di Roma, un'affresco di pura armonia emotiva in grado di trafiggere i cuori di chi si imbatte in questo immenso film.
