Here's the real scoop, Great Conditioner But Not So Good Color Covered As Aveda
Being a person that absolutely loved the color of Aveda Annatto I was so hoping this would be a nice substitute color-wise, but I'm a little disappointed with my first use of it in that regards, it didn't come close, however the conditioning of it is far superior to Aveda. The term so close and yet so far away applies to this product and Aveda both, at least as far as I can say.. I am a hair dresser so I do write this review objectively. Aveda was very disappointing in the realm of conditioning which I remedied with applying a preferred conditioner in the shower after I used it, which did not bother me whatsoever. The Aveda appears to have much more plant extracts than Davines and with Aveda the color can be seen in under 5 minutes and in only 1 treatment, where as after putting the Alchemic Copper by Davine on in the shower for 10 minutes it barely showed on my hair, I am going to wait and use it for a month and update this review. I am absolutely in love with the feel of my hair after using it however. It is an amazing conditioner and I do highly recommend it for that. For me on my first use of it I did have to actually get out and towel dry my hair and reapply with a plastic cap for a a half hour just to get more color. I'm hoping it gets better with time because I do love the feel of it. My suggestion is use this for conditioning and a slight brightening and still buy Aveda. I realize that the Annatto, for some ridiculous and unexplained reason was halted in manufacturing, but I am willing to try one of their others combined with this Davines Alchemical Copper. If however at the end of the month my hair is showing more signs of holding the color with Davines then I will just stick with Davines because it really is an awesome conditioner. I have another important point which is, if Davines does not increase over time with its enhancement color-wise, I realize you would have to use 4 times the amount compared to Aveda, or keep it on your hair with cap for a good half hour each treatment, so if this be the case, in the end it runs up a pretty penny seeing you have to use much much more. This review is only as of today with my first use. I will add on to this review after I use it for a few weeks, if by chance it works much better with time, I will be happy to add on an update. I do think Aveda did a severe blunder by discontinuing their Annatto because they lost hundreds of thousands a year due to this because I know there were many that have written in asking them why they did it, and it still does not make sense. Their product was very rich in plant extracts that you could see immediately, even in your hands, which with no problem washed off quick enough but with Davines there was no such plant extracts that could be noticed. Just a slight brightening of copper but again the color part of this might change over time and use.Add on Review June 8th 2013,This is in the comment section to another poster that asked about the update, I'm copy pasting here so folks can see it just in case they do not go into the comment section. Hence I changed my 4 stars to 3 because it does have a nice conditioning and softening effect. See belowI've been using it Twilightpony since December 2012 and it is now June 8th 2013 and I have to say that Davines does not really help much with color effect for my hair, and I do have a perm etc so it should actually take more easily and work better then many because my hair is more porous but however it did NOT do much change colorwise at all, except for brightening it and softening it. The conditioning is excellent but the color cannot at all compare to Aveda... I am like you I miss the Annatto so much that it is upsetting that they got rid of it. I cannot for the life of me understand why they did such a thing. The next thing they did was come out with an Annatto lipstick but dumped the conditioner. For that reason, I will never buy the lipstick even if it is gorgeous. But I think they made a very bad move.. For softness Davines is awesome but not so good for coloring and maintaining that gorgeous color that Annatto had. The Davines is not very rich in color, its more bright, so it doesnt give that depth or deepen in the same way, it only has the lighter hues within it where as the Annatto seemed to cover both darker hues of reds along with lighter hues and did so in an awesome way. It was so gorgeous.. Its too bad thousands of souls dont write in at the same time and ask for it to be brought back. Have you found any that compare to the Annatto on the market ????? I'm curious to know because I would give it a go if you found one that was at least close to it...

I found a surprise in my Davines Alchemic Copper Conditioner...
Let me preface my entire review by saying that my low rating and negative review have absolutely nothing to do with the effectiveness of this product. I have also never purchased any of my Davines products directly from the Davines website, only from amazon, so I can't speak for the authenticity as I don't have any legitimate product to compare this one to.This Alchemic in Copper is the second Davines conditioner I have purchased, the first being the Red, and I have been completely satisfied with the *performance* of both products. I love the deep red look I have achieved and maintained with this product. I have always applied the Alchemic Red to DRY hair before showering and let it soak in for about 5 minutes, so that it would absorb as much pigment as possible. My hair is a lighter shade of brown with red undertones, but after using the Red conditioner (even after just one use) it was a beautifully vibrant and saturated red color that faded nicely with each wash, and it seemed to be softer and healthier. That's a win in my book. So I did some trolling and found multiple women who swore by using the Davines Alchemic Copper in conjunction with the Alchemic Red to keep their color vibrant and to give the illusion of dimension. Naturally, I just had to add the Copper to my collection to see if what these other ladies claimed really does work. I ordered the Davines Alchemic Copper using my Amazon prime account and received it within 2 days, no complaints there. It looked like the same packaging as my 1st product just with a different label, it smelt the same, had the same consistency, the only difference I could tell was the color (duh!).-HERES WHERE THE NEGATIVE PART COMES IN-The very first scoop of product I took out of the jar had a very long, orange hair in it. At first I did find it a tad weird, but just brushed it off and figured that my own hair had fallen into the jar and I had scooped it out (Why I thought this I will never know, considering my hair is short and very red. Not orange.) I applied the 1st scoop to my hair and then immediately wiped my hands off with a towel. I learned the hard way that the potency of this product is not just limited to hair... Two days and several terrible "I've been caught red-handed" jokes later, and I won't be making that mistake again. So with CLEAN and DRY (read:hair and product free) hands I took another small scoop out of the jar and rubbed it between my fingertips for maximum spreadability. And yet again there was orange hair, except this time there was more than just one strand. So I picked the hair(s) off of my fingers and closely inspected them only to find that they are actually BLONDE hairs that have been sitting in the product long enough that they have turned bright orange. Joy. So I wiped my hands off again and prayed for the best as I went in for another scoop. Well, third time's the charm I suppose, because I found a nickel sized fuzz ball of orange hair inside of this scoop. Disgusting. By this time I've already got all of my hair covered with the conditioner... so at the very least, after burning all of my skin off with the scalding hot water that was neded to cleanse myself of the nasty that is stranger hair, I didn't have to worry about the color looking fabulous. It did not have the time to really sit on my hair, but after showering and drying I could see that the Copper pigmentation had indeed deposited and I was actually very pleased with the result of mixing the two.I'm not entirely sure that this retailer is selling bonafide Davines hair care, as I don't imagine company protocol would be conducive to clumps of hair finding its way into product. Regardless, if it is a knockoff, it still does a pretty dang good job depositing color as long as you are ok with surprises in your conditioner.

My hair loves Davines Alchemic Conditioner/Copper
With how fast red hair color can just wash down the drain, I use this color depositing product along with the copper shampoo when my hair is on the lighter side of red. It brightens and keeps my color fresh. It may be kind of pricey but I figure it does save me money from not having to go so often to the salon, while also keeping my hair healthy, vibrant and manageable. I wash my hair every few days and I have had great results keeping the color longer this way. Definitely recommend both shampoo and conditioner used in conjunction and I don't feel the conditioner weighs down my hair at all, in fact it seems quite the opposite for me at least. My hair smells heavenly after styling, a clean and fresh smell with a slight men's aftershave note. (Maybe that last part is just my imagination though!?)As far as staining your hands and shower goes, I immediately wash my hands after finger combing it through.Maybe I'm just used to it but not a huge problem with staining the shower, well not any more than my haircolor washing out and down the drain either however. 😉 Just use a daily shower cleaning product, besides your regular deep cleaning if you want to cut down on that.

Good but now amazing.
I bought this as the colour deposit was copper as opposed to red (copper being much harder to find). It also seemed to have good reviews online.I have used it several times and I have noticed a subtle deposit of copper warmth in my hair (and on my hands!) It sometimes makes my hair quite fluffy so perhaps not too great as a conditioner (I have naturally fine and relatively straight hair so that's not too much of an issue for me).It smells lovely and my husband had noticed that. And the tub is a good size and likely to last a good long while. I wish it was a squeezy tube rather than a pot - I don't like putting my natural white nail tips into a pot of orange stain as they do retain some colour!Overall I wouldn't say it's better than other colour deposit conditioners I've used and it is more expensive. I will try another copper conditioner next time rather than repurchasing this.

AMAZING!
OMG...this and the shampoo are an amazing find. With faded strawberry blond hair, this has given significant savings (and lots of saved time!) not having to have low-lights to inject some copper back into my hair. I use this once a week (in a normal shower) for a wonderful copper colour. Comments - even from old school friends who remember my original colour - have been very positive!

Very good, has impact which left my light strawberry blonde ...
Very good, has impact which left my light strawberry blonde hair slightly darker which is what I was after.Bit of a weird smell but nice conditioner.Would recommend leaving it on for a while under a shower cap etc. for best effects.

Love the product
Love the product, even if I ordered a copper instead of the red one, give my red hair such a beautiful light. The only con is that makes my hair very greasy, even if I use a very small amount.
