If you are in a position to plan for the future with regard to your pension provision, then this book is among the classic ones to read. It reassures you if you have left it a bit late since it will take you step by step as to what you can do to improve your future. If you want to make an early start and you are still reasonably youthful, then this book will be much easier to follow and implement. There are many tips and ideas within this book and if carefully read, much of it can be implemented realistically. One of the best tips is not to rely upon your house to provide the neccessary equity to give you an income in retirement. The well known financial guru Alvin Hall will take you through all the steps in a simple and effective way. Highly recommended to anyone that wants to make a start in making provision for their future.

I bought this book to help my elderly mother decide how to best invest her savings for retirement. Unfortunately, she doesn't have a private pension to rely on. This book is full of useful information and it is clearly explained. Best of all, it is made for the UK and not the US market, which is completely different. It has also helped me to better understand what I want for my retirement and how to start accumulating it. I have always loved Alvin Hall's entertaining and chatty style. He brings passion and fun to finance. You can't really ask for more than that!

Only giving this 4 stars because I wish this was read when I was in my 20s. As it is, little can be done when in one's 60s. Unless that is I ever win the lottery!

Alvin Hall lays out in clear how to plan for later life and your retirement. If you have not thought about your retirement this book will give you an idea of what you should think about and helps you put a cost on what you need to have saved / invested, if used properly between now and retirement you will hopefully have enough money saved to have a happy, carefree and enjoyable life - after work. Thank you Alvin Hall, I found the information very useful and in 20 years look forward to my own retirement.

I've been a huge fan of Alvin for years, and wish he's do another TV programme in the UK. I credit Alvin entirely for making me financially literate. This book is written in his usual style of not holding back with tough messages, but managing to be very likeable and human.
