Fine system, but SSD fakes serial number and SMART data, and fails prematurely
The system is fine. It's pretty fast, small, and reasonably quiet when not under load. And the price is right. BUT... The system I put this in does SMART self-tests daily. The drive that came with this "SSD 256GB", with a fake static serial number of YS202010419728HP, fakes the SMART results: SMART Self-test log structure revision number 1 Num Test_Description Status Remaining LifeTime(hours) LBA_of_first_error # 1 Offline Self-test routine in progress 50% 3320 - # 2 Offline Self-test routine in progress 50% 3320 - # 3 Offline Self-test routine in progress 50% 3320 - ... With it reporting each of the 21 entries as being permanently 50% complete and occurring at the last time a test was requested. As such, I expect the SSD to fail prematurely. Edit: As expected, the SSD has started showing signs of failure after 9 months of minimal use. The SMART log is reporting Current_Pending_Sector of 2, and the Linux kernel reported WRITE FPDMA QUEUED failures multiple times until the system had to be power cycled with the power switch. When a computer can't last an entire year before failing, it's a piece of junk.
