Shockingly Effective
I'm a casual distance runner and had begun dealing with IT band inflammation from training during winter months. I went through a frustrating cycle of getting a little better, then going out and running on it prematurely and exacerbating the pain on the left side of my knee. Although very skeptical, I ordered this product to try and start training again more quickly. I've been out multiple times and experience zero pain and zero discomfort when I wear this band. I prefer to wear it over joggers because it does tug my skin a bit when I wear it with shorts but I'm ecstatic to be able to be running again pain free so quickly.

Helps with ITBS
I have never had an issue with my IT Band before but when the pain started up on the outside of my left knee, I knew something was wrong. I asked my running coaches about it and they all agreed it was an IT Band issue. I took a week off and did some stretching and strengthening exercises, which helped, but I still wasn't able to run without pain. I found the Pro-Tec band on Amazon and saw the good reviews and ordered it. I put it on and went for a run with no pain. I took it off and ran for a bit and the pain returned. The band does work. It has allowed me to return to running, with a mileage decrease until I was 100% better, and to do it without pain. The only downside is that it did irritate the back of my leg a bit. It's not that big of an issue as I took an old shirt and cut a strip out and place it between my leg and the wrap and the problem was solved. It works and provided my knee with the relief to run without pain. I would recommend this to anyone with IT band issues that is looking for something to help ease the pain so training can resume.

Wrap got me through a full marathon!
This wrap just got me through a full marathon! About 3 weeks prior to the race, I developed ITBS, likely from running downhill too hard. I probably read every article about ITBS and every product review for all the different brands of wraps and ended up purchasing the Pro-Tec brand. The week prior to the race, I tested the wrap on an 8 miler and felt the ITBS pain starting towards the end. I realized after that I had applied the bump to far to the back of my leg because I had mistaken my tendons for ITB. So hope was alive that this would still be a miracle cure. On race day, the ITBS was in the back of my mind for almost the entire race. There were a few times where a slight twinge would occur and I was fully expecting the pain to start . . . but it never did! The last 3 miles were a slight descent and I was able to run it strong. Is the wrap a miracle cure? I'm not sure. In addition to the wrap, I rested as much as possible. I took the full week off after initially developing ITBS. I did stretching and foam rolling (even though many articles discounted any benefit of foam rolling on ITBS). One week prior, I did the 8 miler and 2 short runs. During the race, I also made sure my cadence was up and ran with wider strides. On the downhills, I took it very slow, walking on the steeper sections. I'm guessing all of these had an impact.I have big thighs (21 inches) so I ordered the XL. It was still very snug. I had to stretch the band in order to attach the first Velcro square. I also stretched the band even more to attach the 2nd Velcro. At the expo, I talked to a rep from Pro-Tec. He indicated that the 1st Velcro was intended to keep the band aligned for those with small thighs and he suggested removing the first Velcro by removing the stitching if the band was too tight and it wouldn't have an adverse impact on its efficacy. One last note, while my ITBS didn't flare up, I did develop muscle spasms on the calve on the same leg and the opposite thigh. This might be caused by the wrap as the impact of the wrap on the muscles (however slight but over the length of a marathon) resulted in compensation from other muscle groups. For anyone suffering from ITBS, you should definitely consider the Pro-Tec wrap, as a short term solution.

Not for the plus-sized. I bought the biggest size ...
Not for the plus-sized. I bought the biggest size but it's still hard to put this on without worrying about the formation of a leg clot. It did help with soreness while I'm on the move, but it's a really tight fit, and that ends up bothering me a lot more than the knee.

Really helps with IT band pain
This was a repeat purchase of this band for husband who has bad IT band pain. He wore out the first one. He is very happy with this compression wrap and can tell that he hurts more when he forgets to put it on.

It does what it's supposed to do
The best thing about this strap is its thickness and the rubberized side that contacts your skin. It stays in place better than other straps I've tried and the velcro bond is very strong. You should always talk to a doctor or physical therapist before using a strap like this. If you can't do that, then adopt it into your sports/exercise slowly to find a good placement and make sure it's not going to cause any issues.
