not highly durable - works great and easy to install
this is now my 3rd in 6 years. Average of 2 years life. Use this for my barn door into the master bathroom. The doors are hollow core so not a lot of weight. The plastic slide on the inside where the spring goes breaks. I did learn quickly that both sides are the same, just reverse the brackets that come preassembled and now you can use it on either end. The open side of the door is the side that fails all the time. Likely because we don't normally fully open the door.

Alternative designs are more robust
I purchase this piece of hardware from National but the design has some flaws and is not as robust as alternative designs.

get the soft close barn door kit! tricky to install but fantastic.

Faulty design - Recall needed
As mentioned by previous reviewers, unit worked when initially installed but required more than a normal effort to initiate movement without any means to adjust. After 6 months started to not work on one side, now not working either direction.Door is operated very infrequently , probably less than 50 times.Concept is great, technology proven on other kitchen type doors and drawers, but obvious this initial product for barn type doors needs to be recalled and improved.Expected more from an reputable company .

Not a great design... seems like an after-thought.
They were easy to install, but within a week I was having problems with them. You can tell these were designed as an after-thought to the NH barn door kit. They slipped out of alignment and leaked lubricant on the top my doors. Because they moves out of alignment, they also didn't consistently work as intended. After trying to adjust them and re-tighten them several times over the course of a few weeks, I gave up and took them off. Unfortunately I missed my return window. I recommend looking for something else.

These soft close kits are great! They are a BIG PAIN to install. But once there, they do the job nicely. Installing the soft close kits on the barn door hardware before hanging it on the wall would be the way to go. However, you still have to make adjustment once everything is in place. Still not easy to do without the proper tools. Sturdiness seems OK, however time will tell. When I ordered these, I was unaware that the kits are made for different weight categories. The ones I ordered are for the 100-200 pound range. I think the lighter versions would have worked better in my situation. Otherwise these are great!
