'Am Loving It!
I received my grill pan today, tried it with a piece of frozen Salmon tonight (rubbed with some seasoning salt, then coated it with honey & mustard), and it turned out simply great! It was tasty and did not taste like microwaved.(I used a 1200 watt microwave and did not follow the recipe as given in the manual.) I first zapped the frozen fish for 2 min. ('not necessary to preheat pan), flipped the fish, 2 more min., flipped (checked the fish), 1 or 2 min. more, flipped again; (the fish was still slightly raw inside) reduced the microwave power to about 70% , and zapped it for 1, 2 more min., then voila! Ha, success on the first try! Although I ate my dinner already, that piece of visually-inviting (browned and slightly blackened, as if it really just came off the grill), moist and yummy fish was gone in a second. After the tasty outcome and the easy cleanup provided by this pan (forgot to mention smokeless and splatter-less), I am now totally excited about microwave cooking meat with this piece of cookware. I'm planning on revisiting microhearth.com, Youtube, and other websites for additional pan usage and cooking tips. ...As matter of fact, I've just ordered another Microhearth pan, the Everyday 1.5 qt. pan, from Amazon...Update (5/13/2014):From doing research on Youtube, reading Amazon reviews and from the enclosed user manual, the following helped me with my experiments for the past few days/meals:1. This grill pan consists of a high-heat resistant & low-heat conductive plastic casing, sandwiches a magnetic ceramic layer, tops by a nonstick coated metal inner grill pan. The layer of the magnetic ceramic converts the microwave into infrared energy/heat that heats the pan, while the metal lid and grill keep the microwaves from reaching the food and the infrared/heat in. (The heat-resistant ceramic coating keeps the metal lid from sparking/ burning.) The microwaves do not reach/cook the food. That's why meats cooked inside this type of pan (with the lid on) do not taste like they've been "microwaved". You can boil whole eggs in this type of pan; un-pierced egg yolks will not explode; not mentioning, browns toasts and meats, while not drying/rubberizing them; grilled cheese sandwiches are super easy and yummy too (grill marked, crispy-out & gooey-in.) By the way, the lid and the grill bottom do get hot, while the sides/handles stay cool to the touch.2. Do not get any water into the little holes on the bottom of the pan. (I even thought about scotch-tape'em holes when I was cleaning the pan, but it was not necessary.)3. To protect the pan's nonstick coating, always first coat the pan with some oil or add some liquid to the pan, before adding the food for cooking; and, right after removing food from the pan (while the residue is still soft), be sure to wipe clean any sticky residues off with hot/ warm (thermal shock; don't use cold) water soaked paper towels right away (follow the cleaning instructions given by the manual later/whenever you're ready--the clean up was ss-oh easy).4. A microwave's wattage, the type/ moisture/ amount/ thickness of food being cooked will all affect the required time and the end result. Experiment some and get to know how to cook with your microwave & cookware first. You don't have to follow the recipes as given; try to first zap the food for 2, 3 minutes, stir/flip the piece(s) of food; zap 2, 3 more min., check food, then flip again, etc... Also, remember to adjust the microwave power if necessary -- power-down-adjust is usually needed for the last round of zap w/my microwave. (I might start noting down the time and power used for my future reference...)If you have a smart phone, there's a free app named "Microwave Converter", by Drumsoft, that converts a recipe's prescribed time to your microwave oven's; for times when a cookbook's microwave oven and your own oven have different powers.5. The only negative aspect with this grill pan is its small size. This grill pan only serves 1 to 2 people/ portions, max. Do not crowd the pan with meat (especially meat that has been marinated); else, you'd have steamed food, rather than the grilled/caramelized-on-the-outside meaty goodness. I have a 1200 watt microwave, and the pan gave me 2 pieces of crispy, breaded Tilapia fish with no problem. But, once when I filled the pan with pieces of wet, marinated Teriyaki chickened, I ended up with steamed chicken. It wasn't bad, but not what I wanted...6. Therefore, for marinaded meat, be sure to remove as much of the marinade as possible from the meat before cooking; else, the moisture inside/ outside the food will be released into the pan during cooking and steamed the meat instead of grilling it. (Sauces/ gravies can be drizzled on top of the meat afterwards.) Dry rubs and slightly moist concoctions, such as mustard and honey, are okay to use straight without drying off w/paper towels.7. I found that this pan browns frozen meat better than the defrosted meat. The defrosted pieces tend to be cooked already before it's browned by the grill (very pale, not caramelized at all -- especially the thinner cut pieces). One commenter suggested preheating the grill for 2 minutes (oiled and covered) before cooking the meat. I tried this on a piece of marinated (Costco's) 3/4" thick, boneless beef short-rib, and the meat caramelized perfectly; it was very tasty (I also lowered my microwave's power to 70% before the last zap session).8. Although, microhearth.com (FAQ) discourages continuous usage of the pan (pan gets very hot--pan might break sooner.? Website recommends "10~15 minutes between each use"), I've cooked 3 batches (2 pieces at a time) of breaded Tilapia, one batch after anther, followed by a pan full of sliced mushrooms and onion, seasoned & mixed with 2, 3 tablespoons of Sherry (basically steamed). And yes, the veggies were burned slightly in the middle of the pan. It was still "easy cleaning" though, I just wiped the burned spot off with a paper towel and continued. (Rice cooked in a Pyrex w/lid was super quick& easy too!)9. Another brand that offers similar products (looked like the same products to me; QVC sells the grill pan), by the name of "Range Mate" (rangemate.com), has additional info. & recipes for view/download.10. (7/16/2014) To reheat pizzas, pancakes, breaded fish, etc., I usually lower my 1200 watt microwave's power to 50%,60%, or 70% first just to warm the food to slightly above the room temperature, before I zap at higher power to melt the cheese, get the food crispy on the outside, etc.I do hope the coating on the Microhearth pans stays on well... Because, now I have purchased a total of 3 grill pans and 3 everyday pans (gave away a set of two though)... 'Still love these pans!

A 'MUST HAVE' grill pan
Love, love love this grill pan! I live in Arizona and sometimes it is so hot outside that we don't want to BBQ. But I don't feel like cooking inside because it heats the house up so much. I decided to check if there was anything new in the way of microwave cooking.I'm glad I did. I mainly bought it to grill fish and chicken but I'm very happy it does so much more. The user guide includes 18 recipes including Grilled Fish, Lemon Grilled Chicken, and Tuna Melt, Fish Tacos, Sizzlin' Steak Fajitas, etc. It also has some yummy looking deserts. I can't wait to try the Berry Good Shortcakes and the Grilled Peaches & Cream.Tonight I reheated pizza. No more soggy leftover pizza! It mostly makes servings for 2.I like that is is a heavier weight and very well built. It cooks fast and cleans very easily. I love the lime green color. I'm very happy with my purchase.

This stopped "grilling" after using it four or five times. I'm disappointed because it was great at first.
I love this Microhearth pan. After reading so many positive reviews, I made my purchase but I was still skeptical. First thing I tried was a cheese burger, which is a favorite of mine. It was as delicious as other reviews stated. Next, I tried a salmon steak, also delicious. It's a genius item that somehow controls the microwaves so meats and fish turn out wonderful. Wish I had purchased sooner. I have no complaints except that I am careful with the lid as others have stated that the handle can come apart. I don't want to take any chances so I follow the directions on washing the grill pan. I would rate this higher but there are only five stars allowed.
