Q: Just finished assembling one, controlls all work in one direction only but will not work in the opposite direction, what have i done wrong ?

Quite possibly you have a broken switch. According to my husband, if a motor (which works on gears) works in one direction it will work in the opposite direction. The switch (lever) works off of two wires, one for each direction, so possibly one of the wires of the switch is broken or not connecting for some reason.

Q: Why can't Opie build it?

If Opie can read and follow directions, Opie can build it

Q: How long the arm can reach?

If I had to estimate I would say 12 inches at least. Maybe a little more
