Frequently Asked Questions Specs Size: 6" h x 3.5" w (quart jar) Weight: 1lb How long does it take to grow? Parsley seeds take 14-30 days to sprout, and will be ready to start harvesting in 2+ months. Continuous harvesting will encourage a bushy plant and greater yield. How long will it last? A parsley plant will continue to grow with sufficient nutrients and light. Plants can be continuously harvested for 6+ months. If flowers appear pick them to prevent the plant from going to seed. How much sun will it need? Herbs require at least 6 hours of direct light daily, and should be put in an unobstructed window that faces south, west or east (southwest is the best option). During winter months-or if you don’t have an unobstructed window-you can supplement with a grow light. Can i put it outside? Garden Jars are designed for indoor use, but can be put outside. Be mindful that the planter does not have a drain hole, and if the reservoir floods it may drown the roots. Bring your Garden Jar inside if temps dip below 55° or above 80°. How is it reusable? The stainless steel net pot and recycled glass grow medium can both be reused-simply rinse with hot water. Add new seeds and use soil or coco pith to help seeds germinate. Use a water soluble fertilizer and follow its instructions. How do passive hydroponics work? Passive hydroponics is a method of growing plants without soil. A combination of an inert porous growing medium and a wick transports water and nutrients to the plant roots via capillary action. The nutrient solution (water and fertilizer) are held in a reservoir and taken up as needed, providing the perfect balance of water to oxygen. About Modern Sprout Modern sprout was created by two people who live and work in a tiny apartment. As avid cooks, eaters, and project planners, they decided the next logical step was to grow their own garden. Unfortunately, they have no space. (Their small Chicago apartment doesn’t have a yard). They bought planter boxes and filled them with botanicals, then stuffed them on their balcony, in their windows, and any other places they’d soak in sunlight. Despite their enthusiastic efforts, they soon found theirselves surrounded by dry, lifeless shrubs. Their busy schedules didn’t leave them with much time or energy for checking pH levels in soil or singing to their plants. No matter how green their thumbs were, they couldn’t grow anything with their hands full. They were desperate for a fool-proof way to cultivate healthy herbs, vegetables, and flowers, yet maintain their self-esteem. They wanted a victory garden, not planters full of defeat. After researching non-traditional options, they found hydroponics. A method of cultivation that’s clean, self-maintaining, and yields fantastic results, hydroponics immediately seemed perfect for busy people like them. But every kit they tried was expensive, difficult to set up, and more homely than homey. They were unimpressed with their options, so they planted the seeds for Modern Sprout. Now they provide planter
