This will not fit a 22" thigh, they should offer this product in various sizes.

Can this be returned if it doesn’t work right?

It has a short return window. I'm stuck with a brace I bought for someone else who decided it wasn't for her. It's not comfortable and it's too bulky to wear under or over clothing.

Does this offer support for patella during workout my knee is giving out during back lunges??

I don’t recommend this for workouts. It provides a lot of support and is pretty thick. I don’t think you would get the flexibility you need. It’s great for walking though.
