Melodious and Progressive Studies for Clarinet, Book 2

Excellent Training Material, and Nice Etudes to Play During Lockdown
I had a copy of the original edition of this collection dating back to when I studied clarinet with David Hite in the 1970s. The current Southern Music edition includes even more detailed editorial markings with regards to dynamics, phrasing, articulations, and so on. It looks like some possible errors from the first edition have been corrected, but there are a few notes scattered throughout the book that seem like possible new typesetting errors. In any case, the only thing that still seems a little odd about this volume is that there's a very wide range of technical difficulty levels, largely as a result of combining so many disparate sets of etudes together. To put it another way, it doesn't seem as "progressive" from front to back as does Book 1. Still, these are standard etudes that are great for clarinet students, especially in learning artistic phrasing and dynamic shaping. They are also great for experienced clarinetists just wanting some tuneful and sometimes challenging pieces to play for fun or review.

Love this book
I am re-inventing myself as a clarinetist, after many years away from it. I have a degree in music ed and clarinet performance, so it isn't exactly a stretch. I have been collecting books I used to own and use, and this was always a favorite of mine. Still is. There is a wide variety of stuff to work on....phrasing, articulations, slurring, musicality....I just love this book.
