A gorgeous deluxe edition of the world's most celebrated guide to life, love, relationships and pleasure Little is known about Vatsyayana, who is reputed to have composed the Kama Sutra "while observing a celibate's life in full meditation." In Sanskrit the word "kama" means desire, especially for sensual pleasure, and its proper pursuit was considered an essential part of a young, urbane gentleman's well-rounded education. Untold numbers of readers are curious about the Kama Sutra but put off by its clichéd image as an erotic Oriental curiosity. This elegant edition offers a compelling modern translation of a classic Indian masterpiece-and a wry and entertaining account of human desire and foibles. For more than seventy years, Penguin has been the leading publisher of classic literature in the English-speaking world. With more than 1,700 titles, Penguin Classics represents a global bookshelf of the best works throughout history and across genres and disciplines. Readers trust the series to provide authoritative texts enhanced by introductions and notes by distinguished scholars and contemporary authors, as well as up-to-date translations by award-winning translators. Review: Defying Mainstream Obscurity - There are two types of people in this world. There are people who have heard of the Kama Sutra and people who have actually read it. It goes without saying that there are far more of the former in this world than the latter. Finding an electronic edition of such an ancient work that, by all reasonable standards, stands the test of time, easily warrants giving it five stars, especially since the translation quality of the text is of the highest order. Although I can understand why there are those who may not have the highest opinion of this edition because of the quality of the illustrations, I believe that regardless of their quality, because the text is all there, it impels the reader to work to understand what they are reading. Also, because this is an electronic edition, one would not need to worry about whatever physical defects might accompany a paperback or hardcover edition. In short, I highly recommend this book. Review: Great Edition - ill treated book - The book is great, beautiful, well bounded and the cover is perfect, the only problem is that it is mate finished and because of that and the storage of the book, the one i received has some marks and scrach marks, it's very superficial but i woud've liked to have it i better state

Ok
The book was ok, the cover is fine but the pages are very bad cutted! They aren't straight, they seem bitted. It's a shame that you deliver that book. The shipping was ok, very quickly.

Gorgeous cover and that's all I really cared about with this purchase. Buy if only for the collectible nature of this volume.

Three Stars
The cover gives the impression it's an illustrated book. Besides that, the trimming was awful.

muito ruim, socorro
cometi o grande erro de não ler as avaliações antes, sem as ilustrações da malika favre e totalmente mal refilado, vários tufos de papel de vários tamanhos.

Delightful translation
This translation is the best I have read. It's pleasant to read and well-written. It is a book everyone who wants to be in a relationship with a man or a woman should read and reread.

Caused a laugh
Bought as a gift. Well received and immediately delved into. Having read the reviews, I was aware that the artwork is cover only. Although that is a pity as my friend loves it, she plans to research the artist, and as someone who has worked in publishing, she told me that this type of Penguin book is normally expensive. So, we are delighted I found a copy on Warehouse Deals at a very good price.
