So You Want to Be a Producer Paperback – September 6, 2005

Heads up, this book is definitely a memoir, not a manual which pleasantly surprised me. I feel that the anecdotes from his career and reflections on his experiences were inspirational as well as informative. Also loved his voice, it’s full of character and personality. If you want to be inspired and already possess or want to foster the qualities he states a great producer has, this is a great read that will give you tips and point you in the right direction. If you’re looking for a straightforward “how to” textbook, this may not be the book for you. But as he says, there’s no straightforward path to becoming a producer. I think this writing approach expresses that theme well.

A well written, inside look at the life and work of a producer. I appreciated his emphasis on ethics, as few others note this, yet it is essential to building a career and reputation in Hollywood, despite what the cynics say about it. If you are interested in producing, this is a must have. If you're just interesting in getting a look at what this role entails, it is a great read, filled with fun anecdotes and interesting insights. I highly recommend this book. A fun read.

First of all, this IS NOT a trendy HOW TO book. So if you are looking for one of those, you should look other titles... However, like Larry Turman himself says: there is not such book. This is a wonderful recount from a man who loves the cinema and dedicated his life to make authentic movies. An Entertained and honest book.

This is a very informative book. I just bought it here and I think that it is a MUST have! Thanks Mr. Turman for giving us more insight on being a producer. This is an excellent book and I like your honesty and your enthusiasm for the craft. This book has inspired me.

Larry Turman boasts a remarkable career as a Hollywood producer. Best-known for having secured the film rights to "The Graduate" and convincing a fledgling Mike Nichols to direct, Turman provides exquisite detail about his journey through Hollywood and filmmaking. If you’re not needing to learn HOW to become a producer, enjoy some old Hollywood nostalgia.

Whether you are an aspiring or experienced producer, this is the book for you. The author packs a lot of information into the 250+ pages. The book is part "motivational," part "how-to," and part "memoir." It all sums up to one of the best and most entertaining producing books I've ever run across. I particular like the author's suggestion that you can maintain your morals and ethics and still be successful in the movie business.

One of the Best producing books I’ve read

Aunque es pequeño contiene mucha información de como funciona la industria cinematográfica y televisiva en Hollywood. Viene muy completo, con ejemplos y la información necesaria para saber de este negocio; perfecto para leer por hobby o en este caso para dedicarte profesionalmente a esto.

Sometimes the author talks about a lot of people I've never heard about without introducing them. When this happens I usually loose attention. I don't live in hollywood, so I'm not friend of all the people in the industry like the author is. Apart this, the book is really precious. I'd like to suggest it to everyone that wants to produce something or just wants to understand a bit of how the entertainment business works.

The man understand it’s craft, but I feel maybe the business has changed to much since the time he was most active in the industry
