A Delightful Story & Beautiful Illustrations
Some very special children in my life had this in their home and asked me to read it to them. I loved the book so much that I bought my own copy. I'd say children from 6-8 would enjoy an adult reading it to them. It's probably a little long to hold the attention a 5 yr old or younger.

Wonderful!
My son loved this book, it's so cute. I understand that it's "unbelievable" ...but seriously...it's kid's fiction! Harry Potter is pretty unbelievable too if you want to look at it that way! This book really teaches some valuable lessons, whether the content is completely realistic or not.

Wonderful story and pictures!
Loved it! This one will stick with you. Years later, you'll be rummaging through your collection, thinking- "Where's that book with the man holding the bird's nest and the birds feeding him?"

Great Teaching Tool for Elementary
I use this novel to teach theme and character change to my fourth grade class at the beginning of a fiction unit. The kids love it and it's easy to reference throughout the year because they remember it.

lovely illustrations and peculiar text explore anxiety
I would agree that this book is peculiar, rather than whimsical, but also suggest that peculiarity can be used to good effect. Yes, it grates a bit on the adult sensibility to have Albert standing in the window for several weeks, but the author and illustrator collaborate nicely in this exploration of more complex emotions -- the tale of a youthful man's anxiety about the bad things in life and how his finding commitment to something outside himself lends him greater perspective.Illustrations are lovely, and the content is appropriate for older kids exploring more complex emotions.

Made me smile...
The illustrations are fabulous. (Thank you, Jim Lamarche) But the story is delightful, as well. I love the way Albert changes as the story unfolds. The writing is warm and lovely. So glad we bought this book!
