(2) The information I've read is that stiff plastics can be made without BPA, but the replacement chemicals may not be any safer than BPA , especially when subjected to heat, as in steaming. Glass tops are probably safer - but more expensive.

Q: Can you cook any kind of rice with this steamer?

Did you put water in with the rice? Usually ratio of 1:1.5 1 cup rice, 1.5 cups water. True with almost any steamer.

Q: Does this steamer have a keep-warm function? Or how can I keep food warm inside till ready to consume?

Yes, there is a warm button, but the cooking water is hot enough to continue to steam for five minutes or so. Keeping food warm has never been a problem. In the bottom part, I take the shrimp or whatever meat I prepared, and put it on a plate. I then put a protective cover on my table and put the upper part of the steamer on it, and serve the vegetables so as to not dirty another dish to wash.

The included rice bowl is about 7-3/4" x 6-1/4" x 1-3/4"
