Dated, but A Solid Read
It's good to know the history and development of methods in lutherie. This book fits into this category. This book was probably a leading text in its time, but age has pushed it back from being a leading text. Still worth the read or overview.

For experienced and beginner string instrument repair persons.
A great book by one of the old masters who blazed the trail for todays luthiers. Most of the techniques are still valid, but some are outdated, such as cutting the fret board to remove the neck, so I would check several sources before attempting such a invasive repair. Many improvement have been made with tools and materials, but this is still a great reference book for anyone working on acoustic guitars. The copy I received was an x library hard cover book in excellent condition. Many of the best books on string instrument repair are either out of print or close to it and cover many problems that were solved with ingenuity, and experience. Two, likely out of print, books by Don Teeter you may find used are also excellent for beginning as well as experienced persons wanting to understand how it's done from minor adjustments to major repair..

Classic work
Classic work. The tactics and tools appear to be not as common today. It won’t hold your hand, but will lay down a course of study to improve skills

Okay for someone wanting to build a guitar but not much on the stuff most people want to know, like neck resets, Fret dressing, saddle shaping and all around simple mantenence. I,d give it an ehhh...

Great
This is an old book but tremendously helpful. It goes into detail as to how to repair certain problems with guitars. I recommend it, if you can find a copy, to anyone who needs to do guitar repair. I repaired a bridge on a flattop guitar. This was my first attempt at repair and the book taught me how to do it.

Must have!
I loved it! Although I wish it were a bit more detailed regarding the explanation of some of the procedures as well as some of the photographs. Other than that, I'd say it's a must have!http://www.facebook.com/ellerbrockguitarrepair

Use of Irving Sloan's Guitar Repair
I remembered this book from years ago and wanted it in my personal library. It has all the right stuff, although I hesitate to use asbestos, as the author suggests. There's a companion piece on guitar making. Do you have it?
